Chapter 9: Disaster Strikes

We were back to the rotten food once again. And also once again, I stuck right back to my stash of snapple's and chips. No way was I eating that rotten food.

"I wish my boyfriend was here. He's such a great cook." Beth said. I almost spat out my salt and vinegar chips. She has one?

"Boyfriend? I don't remember any talk about a boyfriend." Heather said.

"Oh yeah, I have a boyfriend. I love my boyfriend." Beth said. "What? Didn't I mention my boyfriend before?"

"You sure do like that word boyfriend. When did you two meet?" Leshawna asked.

"We met between TV seasons," Beth said.

"Wasn't that only like. . . Two days?" Lindsey asked.

"Mmhm, we met at the orthodontist. He was getting his braces off at the same time as me." Beth said. "At first, I wasn't into him. But after the braces came off, look out. Such a cutie." I stared at the photo. That was WAY too good to be true.

"So, you have a boyfriend, huh? Prove it." Heather said.

"Sure, I can tell you everything about him. He's six feet tall, has light brown hair, blue eyes, size ten shoe, 32 pant with a 34 inch seam." Beth described.

"Wait a second. Those stats are all written on the back of his picture." Justin said. "I know a comp card when I see one because I'm a professional male model." When did that music start and the blinding lights come from?

"Yeah, well, maybe he's a model, too." Beth said. "Ever thought of that?"

"No, no one ever thought of that." Duncan said.

"You've been chasing after a boyfriend all this time with a honey back home?" Leshawna asked angrily.

"Sure, my boyfriend's a model, but he's still just a guy. Justin is a super model! I can't help myself." Beth said.

"I can," I muttered.

"Now that my braces are off, it's a whole new dating world." Beth said as she stared admiringly at Justin.

"Bendy straws! These are just like the ones they had at the hospital when I had my kidney switched." Harold said.

/"Is this some kind of confessional thing we're doing now? Might as well say I have a boyfriend too!" I groaned."/

"I was born with a rare kidney condition. My left kidney was where the right one should be." Harold informed.

"You had a surgical kidney swap?" Leshawna asked grossed out.

"That's right. I am a rare case." Harold confirmed with a grin.

"You're a rare case, all right." Heather muttered.

"Whatever, I'm loading up." Harold said as he started putting the straws in his pocket. I just rolled my eyes as I munched on my chips.

"I think Owen's taste buds packed up and moved away years ago." Heather said.

"I wish I had this disgusting slop around last time when I was trying to stick to my diet." Lindsey said with a sigh. Chef then walked by and I didn't bother.

"Not to worry folks," Chris walked in. "You won't be holding onto your lunch for much longer."

"And exactly what torture have you concocted for us today?" Duncan asked.

"Oh, nothing. Just that your day will be a total disaster. Get it? It's a disaster movie theme! Ya know? Like in disaster flicks?" Chris asked. "People running for their lives from volcanoes, or earthquakes, asteroids, tidal waves. The more disastrous, the better."
