Full story: Chapter 1 of Lost in Time

Recap: Lyssa attempts to run away from home and finds herself a bit too successful when she comes face to face with Rory Williams and the Eleventh Doctor.

POV: Eleventh Doctor

"How much longer do we need to wait for him? I say we start it now, make him catch up when he comes back," Amy decided, sprawling over what had formerly been Rory's spot on the couch. She caught him looking and smirked. "He can have his spot back when I think he's earned it."

He snorted. "And people say I'm the impatient one." He glanced back at the open doorway, bouncing one knee to pass the time. Rory really had been gone for longer than he should've been, even assuming he'd found the broken hallway that led you in a loop for fourteen minutes before releasing you (Assuming it was still there - the TARDIS may or may not have been irritated with him at the time, and it would not have been the first time she'd temporarily changed her architecture just to teach him a lesson.)

"Uh, that's because you are?" she scoffed. "You can barely handle five seconds. I, on the other hand, waited at least fourteen years -"

"Are you still going on about that?"

"It was fourteen years, you don't get to comment on it unless I say so," she informed him with an arched eyebrow.

He held up his hands in surrender. No matter what some people might say, he did know when he'd lost the fight.

He just didn't always give in when he should, as a several-centuries-long-and-still-ongoing water fight could attest.

Long experience with Pond, however, ensured he did know the right answer, which in this case meant changing the subject.

"Rory really has been gone a long while," he remarked casually, seamlessly switching over to a new topic as his other leg joined in bouncing to match the first. "It shouldn't be taking him that long to find it." He started tapping the fingers of one hand restlessly against his leg, mindlessly tapping out the rhythm of Alcephuz's twelfth symphony - not one of his best works, by any means, but it was a catchy tune, and it helped pass the ages that had surely passed by now. It was a little tricky playing the part of both the violin's and the harmonica's distinct notes, but he made it work.

He was working towards the grand crescendo of the piece - he'd had to add in his other hand, but that was okay, he could harmonize quite well, if he did say so himself - when Pond sighed. A very distinct sound, one that meant Danger, and he abruptly sat up straighter.

"Why don't you go try and find Rory, Doctor?" she suggested, in a tone of forced patience - which was weird, Rory had taken much longer than this before and she hadn't sounded like that then, even he was waiting more patiently than Amy, and he could admit that he wasn't exactly the paragon of patience.

Still, he leapt at the chance - literally and figuratively, ending his finger orchestra with a flourish and bouncing to his feet. "Brilliant idea! I'll be right back!" He paused, remembering the hallway of fourteen loops. "Probably."

He turned back at the doorway to say something brilliant, only to find Amy curling one hand over her stomach with a grimace - an expression that'd been growing rather common over the past few months, for all she pretended it wasn't happening - or worse, truly wasn't aware.
