CHAPTER 4

Rushed footsteps echoed through the corridors of the Comb. The guards stood with their head down. Everyone had heard the news of their Lady falling unconscious in middle of her garden and had feared the worst.

Maya's health had been deteriorating for years. Some said she had caught some human ailment while others thought that her weak heart couldn't take the downfall of her son.

Some even went to lengths to feel poor for the Supreme. He had lost his son, his friend Revios and his family was brutally murdered by Samuel and now he could lose his wife too.

Daniel ran through the corridors to his wife. He couldn't lose her too. He knew the spirits if something happened to her it would his punishment for not protecting the spirits. Celeste had fallen two years ago and so far they could do nothing to free her from Samuel. Everything he had done along with Revios in hope of saving the Spirits had all gone to waste.

He waltzed inside the room to see a pale looking Maya lying on the bed. With her eyes closed, She looked ghostly. There beside her another woman was sitting.

"Maya." Daniel rushed to her side.
Maya opened her eyes on hearing his voice and looked up at his face. There was a small smile that brightened her features.

Daniel stopped in confusion. He had instinctly feared the worst.

"Is everything alright?" He asked sitting down by her head.

He had been in a meeting, in another strategic discussion against Samuel when a maid came rushing and told him that Maya fell unconscious in mid stroll through the garden.

He looked at the attendent. The old looking woman gave him a gentle smile.

"The Spirits have blessed us. They heard my prayers." Maya whispered, taking Daniel's hand and holding it against her lips. Kissing his hand, as a stream of happy tears fell down her eyes.

"I don't understand." Daniel said in bewilderment.

Maya took his hand and pressed it against her flat stomach. Her bright eyes looking at him in happiness.

Daniels eyes widened in shock. He alternated looking between her stomach and her face. He couldn't believe it.

The midwife had been clear during Cerulean's birth that they couldn't have another child. Maya's body had certain problems.

"You are pregnant?" He asked to clarify.
Maya nodded with a watery smile.
Daniel looked at the attendent for confirmation.

"Congratulations Supreme." The woman said and took her leave. Giving them their privacy.

"Oh Maya!" Daniel exclaimed. He hugged his wofe tightly. "Thank you. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. This time it will be better I promise. This time I won't let our child become a disappointment. It will be everything we want. This time we won't fail."
Maya nodded at her husband.

They hugged each other and thanked the spirits for this gift to their life.

None of them notice a twelve year old boy at the door of their room listening quietly to them.

Cerulean listened quietly to them talking. Over the years, he had learnt to hide well. He was like a painting on the wall.

One wouldn't see him properly until they carefully tried to.

And No one really tried to see him.

Cerulean took a step back towards his room.

'They really hate me.' Cerulean thought angrily. He had heard them talk about him in hushed whispers many times but this was the first time he had been called a disappointment and a failure. He didn't really care for their opinion. He had long learnt to not expect anything from them.
