"Shhh," Steve hushes you, the brush now running seamlessly through your hair. Steve pulls it through once, twice, three times more before setting it on the small side table and circling to your front, kneeling with his hands on both of your bare knees as his blue eyes stare into yours. "He'll be okay. We'll find him."
You place your hands over his as Steve leans forward slowly, his lids slipping closed as you can feel his breath on your lips.
But before his kiss can find you, he freezes - tensing suddenly as his head whips around towards the bedroom door. He pushes from his kneeling position and quickly moves to crack the door, listening for a moment.
"Steve?" you ask, standing from your chair.
He looks back at you, bringing a sharp finger to his lip, quieting you immediately.
You tense. Have you been found? How? How has Ross already tracked you down?
Your breath comes in labored pants as your eyes grow wide, glancing about for anything you can use as a weapon, any place to hide.
But then Steve's shoulders relax, and he loosens in his posture.
"It's all right," he says, a small smile on his face as he holds a hand out to you. You cross the room quickly as he pulls you into a tight embrace. "False alarm. It's a friend. Get dressed and meet us downstairs."
A knock at the front door down the hall has Steve letting you go, pulling the bedroom door shut behind him. You quickly change into a new pair of black cargo pants from one of the mission duffels, pulling Steve's sweatshirt on over top. Shaking out your damp hair, you make a beeline to the bedroom door - curious as to who has come to the ranch - when Steve's earlier whisper has you stopping to quickly pull his tags out from underneath, allowing them to rest plainly on your chest.
Dashing quickly down the hall to the main room, you freeze in the archway as you spot a familiar red skinned man floating several feet off the ground near the front door. The moment you enter the room, his face turns sharply to you, his eyes scanning your body before returning to Natasha, Sam, and Steve as they stand in the entry way.
"Vision," Steve nods politely. Although you can tell he is still somewhat reserved. Skeptical.
Vision slowly sinks to the ground, clasping his hands tightly behind his back and taking stock of Steve, Sam and Natasha once more.
"I see the Doctor's delivery found its way to you," he says plainly. "She will be pleased when she sees the news."
"So, you uh...you're not gonna snitch on us, right?" Sam asks, crossing his arms across his chest and ignoring Visions odd statement.
Vision tilts his head slightly as he regards Sam with intrigue. "You believe me to still want you under the purview of Secretary Ross and the DHS," he states. Not a question, but rather a stated assertion.
"Can you blame me?" Sam asks. "You were shootin' ray beams outta your forehead at us back there on the tarmac, man."
"I was attempting to stop the fighting before any were injured," Vision responds coolly.
"Bullshit. You were playing both sides," Sam says, slightly accusatorily. "How do we know you aren't still playing the field?"
"Secretary Ross has made it clear he is not truly in favor of the collective good," Vision states simply. "It has skewed my equation in favor of your continued freedom."
"That goddamn equation again," says Sam, shaking his head. "You know you really oughta-"
"It's good to see you, Vision," Steve steps in, backing down Sam who seems to be growing even more agitated. "But why are you here? How did you find us?"
