I continued to look at the house and noted the poor condition it was in even on the outside. I had no clue what her home life was like but just by looking at the house I could tell that it was very different from mine. The door had a massive dent in it and appeared to almost be hanging off of its hindges and there were bottles of vodka and whisky all over the front lawn. Taking in the house as a whole I realised that it also gave off a whole air of misery.
‘If I had to live in that house then I would want to leave.’ Liam stated bringing me back round to the conversation at hand. ‘I mean she could have left before we came or maybe they have a back door?’ he continued.
‘CARROTS’ Louis yelled.
Chuckling along with the rest of the lads I sighed ‘Come on’ I stated grabbing Louis and signalling Liam to begin to walk down the path around Britts house with the rest of the lads. ‘Where are we going Hazzabear?’ Louis asked.
I replied simply and straight to the point.
‘Looking for Britt.’
Josh’s POV
I began to walk around the familiar pathway of the lake. I was surrounded by water on one side and trees on the other, this for me was home. The only place that could calm me down.
Admittedly to some people my life was perfect. The perfect house the perfect friends no real issues.
But appearances can be deceptive see to understand someone you really need to: read between the lines.
Suddenly a phone going off snapped me out of my thoughts. Looking up I saw 100 metres away the barge and on it stood a girl. She was roughly average height and average weight she wasn’t skinny but she wasn’t obese either… she was perfect.
SHIT. What the hell she can’t be perfect I thought to myself ive never met her and even now her back was too me so I couldn’t even tell what her face looked like. Breaking through my thoughts for a second time I began to hear what must be her phone again and instantly I recognised the ring tone.
She’s like a rock and I keep chipping off a piece to hold on to.
And she’s got a lot of nerve not seeing you the way that I do.
We are, oh, we’re about to be.
So much closer than you thought that we could ever be.
Well, I’m sorry to say that I gave it away.
Well I’m empty-
She rejected the call.
I could tell even from the distance that I was stood from her. The phone cut off after ‘I’m empty’. As I continued to just stare at the girl I thought about the meaning of the line and maybe she cut it off there on purpose. Like she was empty?
Instantly I wanted to know more about this girl. She was so mysterious. I’d never seen her before in my life yet I felt some strange connection towards her as if she was a life-long friend that I needed to…
Help?
Before I could think any more about it I saw the girl begin to walk towards the edge of the barge, and instantly like a reflex I started to run towards her feeling a need to protect her. From whatever she was fighting.
Britt’s POV
‘I’M SORRY’ I yelled before I slid and fell to the wooden barge.
Josh’s POV
‘I’M SORRY’ she yelled.
I speed up trying to reach her before she could hurt herself even though I knew that she was probably breaking anyway. At this moment nothing mattered to me at all.
Nothing but her. I had to keep her safe. She needed me.
Suddenly I was aware of footsteps coming down the bank of the lake and I slowed to a halt wandering who it could be, they sounded pretty panicked and they were sprinting towards the barge like there was no tomorrow. Looking up I saw 5 lads running with all their effort towards the barge.
‘BRITT’ the blonde one at the front shouted.
She snapped her head round and the look of horror on her face was enough to tell me what I needed to know, she didn’t like these guys. She didn’t want them near her.
Speeding to a stop all 5 lads were stood right behind Britt and looking at her with concern on their faces.
She appeared to be speaking aloud as her mouth was opening and closing and the boys were showing reactions to the things that she was saying. But she must have been pretty quiet because I couldn’t hear her.
An ebb of anger rushed through me as I realised that I wanted to be the one with her helping her and looking after her. Pushing through the anger I began to calmly walk along pretending that I didn’t want to know what was going on.
Before I could even get near enough to the barge to see what was going on I watched as the girl turned around to the boys and pushed past them.
‘GET AWAY FROM ME’ she screamed.
I stopped dead in my tracks now only 5 metres from the start of the barge and watched as the girl walked towards me staring at the ground.
I cleared my throat; and said loud enough for her to hear me.
‘This is a life of exits and entrances’
She lifted her head, turning to face me and I swear my heart stopped.
