contemplating the events of yesterday, you'd come to the conclusion that
you are a creep.

who stares at people when they walk by?
you probably weren't blinking either.

you'd gotten away from your parents,
ready to explore a new part of this city.

as you blindly walked block after block,
you stopped in front of an arcade.

an immediate wave of nostalgia hit you.

you moved away from
the only arcade near you
during your childhood.

on a whim, you walked in,
praying your love for the games
hadn't totally faded yet.

as you wandered past newer games,
you noticed a familiar head of
two-toned hair trudging away
from an old favorite of yours.

you kept your head down,
a bit embarrassed after realizing
how odd you were the day before.

surely he wouldn't be able to
recognize you in the dark.

before he settled at a new game,
you rounded to the other side
of the machines and followed after him.

conveniently, his pace sped up.

you tried to reach out and tap his shoulder, but as you reached out, he stopped.

the two of you bumped into each other.

he turned his head and you'd already taken a huge step back.

"i'm sorry," you stammered out.
his eyes were a golden yellow.
his gaze was almost entrancing,
even as it avoided you.

"it's fine," he mumbled.
his voice sounded how you expected it to.
soft, a bit cold, but all around,
quite calming.

"wait!"

he turned back, standing awkwardly waiting for you to speak.

"i want to apologize."
your voice wobbled
as you tried to talk to him.

something about him intimidated you.

maybe it was just because
he was a boy around your age
and you felt awful for being so weird.

"you just did," he said under his breath.

"n-no. i was the one who kept staring at you yesterday. i'm sorry. that was really weird."

"oh."

"uh, sorry," you mumbled,
nervously taking steps back.

cautiously, you walked away and left, tiptoeing away as if trying to avoid creaks in the floorboards.

you looked like an idiot.

it was just your luck
that the feline boy was watching it all.
