Chapter 30 - Bridges to Cross

Start from the beginning

Amelia cast a surreptitious gaze around her to make sure no one was listening before giving a withering glare to Varun.

"Am so fortunate to know something we already discovered, thank you so much for your oh so unhelpful assistance." Amelia answered in a perfectly neutral voice with a sweet smile that was more piercing than knife.

"Don't be so formal," Varun said waving the comment as if it was genuine. "Besides, I got other things to share, you don't think I'll just speak in riddle without giving any help, do you?"

At his expectant look, Amelia could do nothing but stare him incredulously. Was this man was for real? Talking as if he was their bestest friend when he was exactly opposite to even an ally.

What was he even trying to do?

Completely understanding her thought process, Varun gave a shark like smile that was predatory at best which made Amelia all the more wary of this unpredictable man... No beast.

"So you see," Varun started smoothly, took a pause and looked around carefully before dropping his voice to a careful whisper. "Am werewolf and then there's Samay who is vampire, he is in plan with Audra. Am sure you will be able to remember Audra as the most vicious person among those two."

Amelia clearly remembered the man who had spoken to her angrily and tried to attack her viciously. Of course, she also recognized the man from the recording Dhruv had shared. Honey had called him Uncle Audra. Nothing new there too.

But the truth about being Vampire... Now that was something. And scary too.

Amelia looked at Varun who was giving her concerned look which would've been misunderstood for being genuine if not for the amusement lurking in the depth of his dark eyes.

And he was werewolf. Not that they didn't realize already but these opposing beasts being together made her repress a shudder of fear that ran down her spine.

Maybe her eyes had reflected her fear because Varun was now openly smiling with his shark like teeth in display.

"I knew you would understand the severity," Varun said, happily taking her cold cup of coffee that was long forgotten from her mind.

Amelia watched him too stunned to speak.

"Do you want to know who Audra is?" Varun asked gleefully.

Amelia nodded despite herself. She was scared to know what he would say more. Considering his more relaxed and cheerful demeanor, she really doubted it would be any less horrifying.

Varun leaned forward eagerly, and looked in her eyes gleefully.

"Once, he wielded black power but after you guys defeated his king, Samay turned him into one of their own, a blood thirsty beast. Think the combined power he could wield." Varun said turning dreamy for a second that scared Amelia even more. "Somehow, it corrupted his mind though, he is unhinged now. Much much more dangerous and unpredictable." Varun informed ending with emphasis and pulling off a perfect worrying look

"He is..." Amelia breathed trailing off, her eyes widening in shock at the implication. This discourse gave her more information and insight that none of them had before. But it was terrifying one.

Varun looked at her trembling hands and she quickly hid them under the table taking a deep breath to hide her emotions from Varun's predatory gaze.

Varun gave a sympathetic smile.

"I can't imagine being you," Varun said, blinking worriedly. "It sucks."

Amelia glared at him furiously, hoping he would wilt under her glare while she reeled in the dreary information fed to her.
