"But we do," Calix argued. "It is too much of a coincidence that their scent would lead here randomly. They are here for a reason."

I rolled onto my stomach, and pulled my pillow under my arms. "I'm too exhausted to deal with this. We have school in the morning. You," I yawned, curling up and closing my eyes. "Are welcome to sleep on the futon. It folds out into a bed, and there are blankets... underneath."

Within seconds, I was passed out cold.

Calix

Akina fell asleep seconds later, and I couldn't help but chuckle as she rolled onto her back, one arm flung across the bed.

I walked over, and tucked her blanket around her, assuring that the window was closed tight so no cold breeze came in.

I sat on the futon, pulling my feet up and leaning against the arm rest. Outside the window, the woods were seemingly lifeless and quiet. But I knew that the boys were out there, scanning the trails, and assuring that there was no danger looming in the darkness.

The pack that had made Akina what she was today hadn't been much of a problem before, but once they heard that West Blue had interest in their girl, the alpha became suspicious, and researched. He now knew what she was, what she could do, and what they could become together; and that meant that he wanted her back.

The alpha had chosen an amazing girl for his son to mate all those years ago. He had chosen someone with a strong will, a beautiful disposition, and a flawless personality and sense of humor- not to mention attractive and fit. But apparently, that didn't matter. Because when he found out that she didn't become exactly what he wanted her to be, a full werewolf, he kicked her to the curb. His girl was now without a pack.

But she wasn't their girl anymore. Not since they disowned her.

She would be West Blue's girl.

But even more, she would be my girl.

-------------

In the morning, as Akina's alarm went off, I woke with her, snapping out of the deepest sleep I had been in in months, and sat up, rubbing my eyes.

She groaned, and slammed onto the alarm, shutting it off abruptly. "I don't think I'll be able to make it through the day."

I chuckled, and sat up. "But of course you will. You have me," I said with a sly grin. "And I make everything tolerable."

"Barely," Akina admitted, and dramatically sighed and threw herself off the bed. "It's still too early to have to get ready."

She was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top, details which I hadn't noticed in the night. But now in the light of the day, I could see the scars on her legs and her shoulder, as well as a short one on her right eyebrow.

I was quick to divert my gaze, not wanting Akina to feel uncomfortable, and instead stretched out. "If you dress quickly, I can take you to my place for a home cooked breakfast."

Akina smiled, and looked over my shoulder at the window. "I don't know if we'll have to get through the day, actually. Look," she nodded out the pane, and I turned to see a winter wonderland. Thick, pure, heavy snow coated the ground and the trees, blanketing the ground in a white sheet- or hundreds of sheets. "Maybe school is cancelled?"

I shrugged, and looked out the window. "It is a lot of snow," I admitted. "But do you think it will be enough to have school cancelled?"

"I sure hope so," Akina laughed, and turned to her bedroom door. "I'm going to go and check with my mom. You lock the door when I go out."

I nodded, and Akina ran down the hall. I closed and locked the door, and looked around the room. On the vanity, there was a tall, oval mirror, and stuck between the frame and the glass were multiple polaroid photos.

I leaned over, scanning each of them, and soon, a smile was etched across my face. In one image, a young Akina, maybe four years old, sat on a bed, her arms wrapped around a huge German Shepherd, her eyes shut, and her teeth shining in a wide grin. Her hair reached down to her waist, and she wore nothing but a camisole and a pair of bathing suit bottoms, a woven bracelet tied around her ankle.

In the one below it, at approximately seven years old, she was standing on a chair in a small looking house that was beach front, one hand gripping the back of the chair and one hand extended in the air beside her. She stood on one foot, the other one kicked out to the side, her foot flexed to her hand, and the same grin on her face as her brother, Elijah peeked out from under the chair. She wore a pair of denim shorts and a pink tank top.

And then there was a change. There was a picture of her in a hospital bed, her eyes barely opened, but her smile still on her face- just not as big. There were bandages covering her body, and her brother, Elijah, was bent over the bed, kissing her cheek. Sheets were across her legs and lower abdomen, covering her.

The rest of the photos showed her in jeans, sweatpants, and leggings- even an ankle length dress at the beach. Her stomach never showed, her legs never showed, and neither did her shoulders. Her smile was never as big as it had been in the images before the accident.

There was a knock on the door, and I walked over to swing it open.

Akina skipped in, and threw her arms around my middle. She squealed, and squeezed me tight, and looked up at me.

"I'm guessing no school?" I chuckled.

"No school!" Akina agreed. "We get an extra day away from that hell!"

I couldn't help but glance over at the photos of the young Akina, recognizing the grin that was on her face now as the same one that showed only in the photos pre-attack.

She was becoming the girl that she had been before, and I wasn't going to let the man who had made her life so difficult change that.

A/N: ALOOOOOOOOOOHA! How are you all this fine, fine spring day? Is it spring? I honestly don't even know what season it is WHOOPS 😂

IM DOING AMAZING! YOU WANNA KNOW WHY?! BECAUSE I HAVE 916 READS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOO IM SO HAPPY! I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyy, Spring Break is HERE! The only reason I'm updating in the middle of a Thursday evening is because I have the day off of school tomorrow to COMPETE AT USA NATIONAL QUALIFIERS! WAHOO! So techinically break starts at 2:30 tomorrow, but for me, it started today after school.

BUT YOU DON'T CARE!

Here's the good stuff.

Do you think that things are going to settle down or speed up after this? What do you think is happening? Do you think that Akina will ever truly be the girl Calix saw in the picture? What do you think they're going to do on their day off?

Now that I'm on SPRING BREAK, I will be able to write and update more often (BUT only when we reach the necessary amount of reads 😁). How does 1150 sound?

Thanks for reading! Vote, comment, promote!
