Only One String Attached

Part 4

"You taste so good, omega." He grumbled, his body still rumbling with a purr. Eijiro felt pride course through his bones at the statement and a shiver gently rode his skin at the look in his eyes. Katsuki leaned forward and reconnected their lips, his fingers moving to tangle in his hair, while his other hand squeezed his hip, fingers gently digging into his skin. Eijiro melted into him, leaning further across the center console, wishing there was less separating them.

"Wait." Eijiro pulled away, his hand gently pushing against Katsuki's shoulder.

"What's wrong?" Katsuki's brow drew in concern, as he pulled back, his pupils still blown and eyes glassy as he searched Eijiro's face.

"We're in a car." Katsuki looked at him, clearly not understanding what Eijiro was getting at. "Katsuki, we are in a car, on the side of the road." The alpha just blinked back at him, his eyes finally regaining some focus.

"The windows are tinted."

"Yeah, but I think it's better if we just go home."

"Ei, it's fine." Katsuki insisted, his voice still heavy from the rush of arousal. "No one's going to see anything."

"Katsuki! We are in the middle of a neighborhood on the side of the road. Can we please just go home?" Eijiro huffed, crossing his arms and falling back against the seat.

"Fine." Katsuki grumbled, turning towards the steering wheel. Eijiro looked at him with surprise at the tone.

"What is going on with you?" Eijiro demanded gently, confused as to where this was coming from. Between his abrupt reaction and departure at Denki and Mina's, and now whatever behavior this is.

"What are you talking about?"

"What do you mean, what am I talking about? You just left Mina and Denki's and now you're acting like a jerk, because I want to go home?" Katsuki remained silent looking straight ahead, and Eijiro felt anxiety building in his body. His thoughts began to spiral as the silence just added on to the tension in the car. Every passing second only added more questions of what was wrong, why Katsuki was acting the way he was, and if it was Eijiro's fault.

They were about halfway home before Katsuki groaned, and his knuckles tightened on the steering wheel. The vehicle accelerated a little, and Eijiro snapped his head to look over at him.

"What's wrong?" He demands again, his voice carrying a little bit of panic in it at the sudden urgency Katsuki was showing.

"I'm just an idiot." Katsuki grumbled, glaring at the road like it personally wronged him. "Normally I'm on suppressants that help to regulate my ruts, but due to some stupid ass mix up, my suppressants got delayed at the pharmacy. Usually that wouldn't be a big fucking deal, but since I've been spending more time around you and your scent, as an unmated pregnant omega, my rut is coming early."

Eijiro took a second as the words set in. Normally he would move his schedule around, and volunteer to spend an alpha's rut with him, but one of the few things he remembered from health class was that mated alphas didn't get ruts while their omegas were pregnant and that omegas needed to avoid alphas in rut while they were pregnant. When the alpha got too deep into his rut, it never ended well for the omega or the pup. His eyes widened in worry, as he watched the alpha carefully.

"Ei, it's fine. Now that I fucking realized what's happening, we will make it home safe, but you won't see me for a few days." Katsuki sighed, before looking at the omega apologetically. "I'm sorry I was so fucking careless about this. This shouldn't have happened like this."

"It's okay." Eijiro reassured quietly, his worry still lying close to the surface.

"No it's not." Katsuki reinforced. "It's my fucking responsibility to keep my alpha in check, and I didn't do that, so that put you in danger. I don't need you to tell me it's okay or fucking reassure me, I just need you to know that I'm sorry I messed up and know that it's not gonna happen again. Okay?"

He nodded in response, still trying to wrestle with the anxiety and worry that was taking over his mind at the moment. Any other time, he would be fine being close to an alpha in pre-rut, but his mind was in a state of raw panic and all he wanted to do was curl up on himself. He was sure his scent was twisted and soured by the state he was in, but he couldn't bring himself to care. The only thought on his mind at the moment was his pup, and getting home safely.

"We're almost home. I'm gonna drop you at the front door, and I'll text you in a few days, okay?"

"Okay." Eijiro felt like a child lost in the woods. He was supposed to be an adult, but right now, he felt like he was failing at treading the waters of life. He had unknowingly put himself and pup in danger, but it still felt like it was his fault. Maybe he should be mad at Katsuki, but he wasn't. He was mad at himself for failing at his first job in parenthood.

As they pulled up to the building, Eijiro prepared himself to get out of the vehicle, but before he could, Katsuki grabbed his hand gingerly in his own.

"Hey, stop beating yourself up over this, okay? Maybe you should go spend a few days with your moms." Katsuki said gently. "Since I'm not going to be around to pull you out of that pretty little head when you're overthinking." The alpha gave a little smile at that, which Eijiro returned half heartedly. He really wasn't upset with Katsuki, he just felt so drained, and so ready to go to sleep. "Hey promise me you'll call them, okay?" Eijiro took a deep breath, before forcing himself to smile again.

"I promise."
