47. Living in the Present

It was the day after Sarah had taken her wisdom teeth out. Camille and Stefan kept questioning her about if she was sure she should get on a shift at the hospital because they were concerned that she would still be in pain, which she wasn't.

Sarah was a bit out of the loop but thanks to group messages she found out that Davina went on a date with Caleb, that Bonnie had kissed Kol and that Elijah finally asked Elena out. She was very happy to see her friends and her cousin happy.

Sarah was actually very surprised that Bonnie kissed Kol. There was no doubt they had feelings for each other, but she wasn't sure if they would give their relationship a chance since she's mortal and he is immortal, she wondered how that would work.

Sarah was walking into the hospital when she saw Bonnie, making her walk over to her friend.

"Hey, Bon! What are you doing here? Are you feeling okay? Do you have fever?" Sarah asked concerned.

"I'm fine. I'm here just to make some blood tests because Elena, Care and Kol are worried and I think if I do these exams they will stop acting like I am still sick." Bonnie said.

"I can do that for you. So you won't wait for a nurse to be available. I still have time before my shift starts."

"Thank you." Bonnie said and Sarah took her to the room where they took patients blood for examination.

"So... tell me. How's things between you and Kol?"

"They are good. We still haven't label anything. It's still pretty new but I am hoping things are going to work out." Bonnie said.

"I'm happy for you two. Can I ask a question?"

"You just did. But go on." Bonnie said with a smile.

"Aren't you concerned about the future of your relationship since he is a vampire and you are a human witch...? I say human witch because I've heard there are witches who are also vampires." Sarah said.

"No. After everything I've been through, I've realized we have to live in the present and stop making so many plans. We never know what life has to offer us. Years ago I thought my Grams was crazy for believing there was something more and for trying to make me know of my powers but now look at me, I'm a vampire who come back from the dead more than once. I've lost people I cared about... Unfortunately all that had to happen for me to see that I should start living in the present. Believe me, if you want to do things, you should do them because life is not that long." Bonnie said.

"Thank you for the advice. You're very wise." Sarah said with a smile and then took it out the needle. "It's all done."

"I see what you did there. All this talk so I won't feel a thing. Thank you." Bonnie said.

Damon decided to give a little visit to Caleb Bennett because he overheard a conversation between Camille and Davina about how Caleb took her on a date and that it ended in a kiss. Damon didn't know why but he felt protective of Davina. It all started because he knew that Davina getting hurt would mean Camille would get hurt but deep down he liked her and he wanted her to be safe. She reminded him of a younger Bonnie Bennett which meant he wanted to make sure she was save and wouldn't have to suffer as much as Bonnie did. He wasn't able to stop Bonnie from getting hurt and sometimes he even helped but now he was trying to be a better man and that meant protect Davina.

"Caleb Bennett. Curious to meet you here." Damon said as he walked into the store.

"Is it really? I mean you're at my family's store." Caleb said.

"Don't act like a smartass." Damon quickly said. "Look, I've heard that you and Davina went on a date."

"Yeah! It was pretty cool. She's the best."

"She truly is. She is a powerful young woman and she's very close with Camille, which makes me be very protective of her. Meaning, if I know you hurt her, I will make you for beg for the mercy of death. I will make your life unbearable."

"Dude, what's going on? What do I have to do to make everyone see that I like her and I just want to be with her? First it was Marcel and now you. Don't get me wrong, I love that she has so many people who care so much about her but damn... I thought we were cool, Damon. I mean we hang out sometimes... I thought you would trust me a little bit more."

"Well, it never hurts to make sure you won't do the wrong thing." Damon said and left.

Sarah spent the entire day thinking about what Bonnie told her about not fearing her relationship just because Kol is immortal and to live in the present.

Sarah has been developing feelings for Stefan and she has been feeling that lately the universe was showing her signs that it was time for her to just let him know everything.

During her shift she had a patient that hadn't told his best friend that he loved her ever since they were kids and was only able to tell today because his best friend had a deaths care, they lost 25 years because none of them had guts to just tell the other how they felt.

Sarah didn't want to be that person who would wait for one of them to be in danger to tell Stefan how she felt, so once she left her shift she went to talk with Stefan.

After she knocked on the door, Stefan appeared and smiled once saw it was her.

"Hey! I wasn't expecting to see you. Come in!"

"Thank you." Sarah said and got inside the house. "I have something to tell you and I need you to not say a thing until I'm done because I'm afraid that I won't be able to say everything." Sarah said and Stefan nodded, so she would keep talking. "Stefan, you are kind, funny, selfless, protective of your loved ones and the nicest man I ever met. You've always been there for me, even when we barely knew each other. You've been my rock through all this, you've been my shelter when I needed a break from all the craziness that has been happening. You are the person I know I can go to when I'm having a bad day. You're the person who I know I can call when I'm going crazy or when I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. You make me feel safe. I like you, Stefan Salvatore. I like you a lot and it's cool if you don't feel the same but I just wanted to let you know because life is too short."

"Are you done?" Stefan asked with a smile, and Sarah simply nodded. "I like you too, Sarah O'Connell. You make me feel alive and I admire how caring you are. Sarah, would you like to be my girlfriend."

"Of course I would!" Sarah said and they kissed passionately.
