I'm hiding inside the closet with my little sister Yeri trembling with fear as we hear our mother cry in agony. My father has been drinking, again.
"You pathetic bitch, where did you hide the money!" my father screamed and I heard my mother begging him to stop.
"I can't, Irene needs it. Her exam is next week and we still haven't paid our electricity bills"
"Can't you just borrow money? I thought you're smart!"
"We can't just borrow and borrow money, our debts are piling up and no one wants to lend us money anymore"
"Then find another fucking way! I need the money now and I won't stop until you give me some"
"Why don't you find a fucking way then huh?! You've spent all of our money on drinking! Why don't you find a fucking way?!"
A certain thing was thrown on the wall that caused a loud thump. I slightly opened the closet door and peeked to see what's happening, it's not a 'thing' it's my mother. I saw my father grabbed my mother's hair "Yeri stay here" I said to my little sister and she nodded. I then hurried out and tried to stop him
"Dad please stop! Can't you see you're hurting mom!" I begged as my tears fall. He slapped me hard that made me fall through my side. My mother approached me still crying "Irene are you okay?" she asked holding both of my cheeks
"Don't you dare hurt my daughter!" she yelled
"Maybe if you have already given me the money I won't cause this scene!" he replied
I looked at my mom and saw her staring at me, she mouthed 'I'm sorry' and stood up. She went to the refrigerator and reached something behind it. She's holding a wallet on her hand and approached my father.
"So you're hiding it there?" he smirked and all I can feel towards him is just anger. He's a monster.
My mother opened the wallet and gave a few cash
"More, I need more" he commanded
She opened the wallet again and gave a few cash
"Is this all you can give?! There's still a lot of money there bitch!"
"No, I can't give you more" she said. My father grabbed the wallet and took all the cash but my mother grabbed it "Please" she said kneeling and still holding the money. He slapped him hard that made her fall and pass out, he threw the wallet then walked outside the house like nothing happened
I went to my mom's side trying to wake her up. "Mom! Mom!" I said as I hold her shoulders and shake her
"Mom?" My sister Yeri went out of the closet wiping her snot using her shirt as she walk towards us, she then kneeled and helped me trying to wake our mother "Is she alive?" she innocently asked
"Don't worry, mommy is okay" I assured her
"She's probably tired" she said
"Yeri, can you get a towel and a basin with water please?" she nodded and walked to the kitchen
I tried lifting my mother till we reached the couch and I lied her down comfortably, Yeri arrived holding the basin with a towel and water inside it.
"Thank you" I said and kissed her cheeks
I reached the towel and twisted it as liquid drip to the basin. I wiped my mother's body gently and saw bruises, fresh and old ones. My heart ached as I try to suppress my tears. My sister shouldn't see me crying now, I have to be strong. My throat hurts so much that if I can remove it, I will.
My mother groaned and slowly opened her eyes "What happened?" she asked
"He left.........with all the money" I stood up and took an ice inside the refrigerator and wrapped it with the towel
"I'm sorry" she said
I sat on the space left on the sofa and looked at my mom "You shouldn't be sorry to me, you should be sorry to your friends" (just kidding she didn't say that HAHAHAHA)
"Yeri can you throw the water in the bathroom and return this basin please?" I asked Yeri, she then nodded and left
I pressed the towel on her cheeks, the hand mark obviously visible and it's red "If someone has to apologize it should be dad, you can't keep doing this to yourself mom, to us. Why can't we just leave?!" I screamed in whisper
"I-I love your dad. We made a vow, till death do us part"
I stood up and face her, frustration fills my body "And you're taking it literally" I sarcastically said "Are you really going to wait till he kills you? Till 'he' do your part?" I said implying that my father will be her death
"This is marriage, you're still young and you don't understand" she said pointing her index finger at me
"No, I clearly understand. You're an adult but you choose to ignore" I said and mirrored her gesture
"I..... We're a family, we built this family through love"
I gritted my teeth trying not to burst "Is this how you define love?!"
"I love your father and we can't just leave him!"
"Love.has.its.limits" I harshly said like my words are laced with venom
Yeri appeared and walked towards us "Are you okay mom?" she said and hugged my mom
"Yes baby I'm okay" mom said and smiled at her
"Why don't we go out and play on the park Yeri?" I said and lifted my sister
"Yes pleaseeeee" she said and hugged me tight
"Go wait for me outside okay?"
"Okayyyyy" she then walked outside
I waited till Yeri was outside and turned to my mother "Don't wait until he hurts Yeri, I have a few money and I'll get my school documents in school then we're leaving" I said then left
