Chapter 2

I quickly changed the subject to a boy in Parker's math class, we talked and laughed for about five minutes before our mom come bursting into the room.

"Girl! Quickly, they are here! Jadelyn Gavril those sweatpants will be burned if they are not removed right now!" She said sternly I made a loud groan as my sister covered her mouth to hide the laughter "wait did you say 'they'?" I asked standing up from the bed looking at my frantic mother trying to put on her hoop earrings but kept missing the whole. My mother turns to face me and was about to say something before she was interrupted by the ring of the doorbell she then jumped and ran down the hallways looking like an over-excited teen meeting her boyfriend for their first date and yelled behind her shoulder "Sweatpants off!"

Parker walked over to me and patted me on the shoulder with a sympathetic smile then walked out of the room, I then slipped off the cozy sweatpants exposing my bare legs to the cold air of my sister room. I would rather get a good beating then wear this dress for another minute! I took a deep breath then walk out of the room and down the hall to hear the voice at the bottom of the stairs I felt my heart beating faster in my chest as I heard laughs that I recognize as my mothers laugh along with a strong mans voice. As I reached the top of the stairs I first saw Parker standing in the stairs trying to look as welcoming as possible.

  Standing by the front of the open door was Mason, his white teeth stretched across his face as he stared at my mother while he showered her with compliments about her new dress and how 'her face shone brighter than the sun' sappy stuff like that, but my mom seemed to like it because her face was turning as bright red as the roses in his hand and she started to laugh as he kisses the back of her hand.

I could feel myself cringe at the sight as I stepped down the stairs to Parker and gave her a small smile and she turned her face to whisper in my ear "Nice legs" she gave me a cheeky smile I gave an amused scoff and I pushed her arm making her feet fall to the next step causing attention to be on us.
Mason gave a bright smile as he turned to us "Well, hello girls! You two must be Jadelyn and Parker!" He said moving his hand from my mother's waist to her shoulder "jade" I corrected earning a glare from my mother.

Noticing the tension in the air Mason released my mother giving her a sweet smile before walking over to us "I'm very excited for you to become part of my family I have always wanted a daughter and I'm sure my sons can not wait to have two little sisters!" His words shot like a bullet, after a moment of Mason blabbering about being a family.

Parker just looked wide-eyed Mason stopped talking with a smile we both looked to our mother who looked completely guilty and with wide eyes mouthing "please" we both looked back to Mason who gave us a small smile, which we forced smiled back
"We would love that," I said smiling as sweet as I could.

I placed a hand on Parker's shoulder "how many sons do you have?" She said shyly twirling her thumbs nervously Mason's grin grew to light up his handsome face "would you like me to introduce you?" His voice went soft almost into a whisper.

Parker just nodded in response cueing Mason to turn toward the door where my mom was stand looking very nervous, Mason kissed her gently in the cheek then walked out the door we then instantly turning our gaze to our mother which she returned with a sheepish smile.

Parker raised her hand and swung it towards the open door with wide eyes and tight lips just as our mom opened her mouth to explain what was going on, six tallboys come through the doorway.

Yes, I said six, they all lined up most of them with their hands in their pockets and emotionless expression making them look even more intimidating, one of the boys gave us a small smile that made the atmosphere less stressful. The last one to come into the house was Mason he just calmly rested on the door frame smiling softly "these are my sons! Soon to be your stepbrother" Mason stated looking over his sons cueing for them to introduce themselves. "I'm Matthew, 26," the taller ones said with a cold expression "I'm Cohen, 22" "I'm Zac, I'm 19," he said with a soft smile, "Emerson, 17" "Benjamin, 17" who also gave an awkward but sweet smile (twins) "Aidan, 14"

Parker and I stiffen when we realized it was our turn but before we could say anything our mother's voice filled the room "how wonderful to meet all of you!" She quickly walked up to them and gave them all a short hug then said "These are my girls, Jade who is 16, and Parker is 14, the same age as you Aidan" Parker stiffened as Aiden's coffee brown eye met hers. "Well, we should get going," Mason said looking at his very expensive looking watch "right!" My mother said quickly grabbing her purse and waving her hand to mention for us to move to the car.

We had to take multiple cars because not all ten of us could fit in one car, luckily Parker and I were put in the same car but we had to share a set because the flowers Mason got for mom were so big it took up the entire seat!

In one car, there was Mason who was driving, my mom who sat in the passenger seat, Parker and I were sitting next to the window while Zac and Aiden sat in the other two seats, and Matthew, Cohn, Emerson, and Benjamin all went in the other car with the over-expensive flowers. It was awkward for a while because the only people talking was Mason and my mother and they just couldn't help but flirt the entire time. Eventually, Zac start a casual conversation between us helping lift the uncomfortable atmosphere, even Aiden chimed in too, maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.

~Arrives at restaurant~

The room was filled with very well dresses man and women, the sound of forks hitting dishes, and polite conversations. I look to my mother who was walking in front of our big party with her arm linked with Mason's as he turned his head and whisper something in my mother's ear that made her laugh, gross, I then looked over to Parker who was looking around with wide eyes amazed at how beautiful it was.

I gently bummed her with my shoulder to get her attention.

She quickly turned her gaze to me stuck out her tongue jokingly which was returned with a glare as I raised my hand and squeezed her face "girls" my mother whispered with a hard glare I then quickly let go of her face noticing the quiet laughs from Zac and Aiden. We all were seated around a larger table by the window that overlooked the city, it was breathtaking.
