Clean and Beautiful (Ex-Prostitute Levi x Reader)

You just prayed the poor guy could catch a break. It wasn't like you were friends with him or anything, but he was your comrade now, and that meant you would be risking your lives against the titans together. Thus, you saw no reason to treat him like an outcast when he had done nothing wrong to you. You truly did wish him well.

With this in mind, when the showers were done and all the lower-ranked soldiers met up on the training grounds, you asked Levi to be your partner.

The ravenette regarded you warily. "Why would you want to work with me?" he asked, probably thinking that this was somehow an attempt to mock him – not that insults bothered him, of course – but he was so used to the other soldiers' petty bullying that he had come to expect it.

You tried not to take it personally, knowing that you would believe the same if you were in his situation. "Well, I'm actually not very good at hand-to-hand combat," you explained sheepishly. "I was hoping you could give me a few pointers – if you don't mind."

While you truly were sub-par at this sort of thing, your real reason for asking was that you didn't want him to be forced to work with another soldier who would probably be cruel to him. The scene in the showers this morning had shown you just how deep the viciousness toward Levi had spread, and you had resolved to do whatever you could to spare him from it. But of course, you didn't tell him any of that, knowing he would interpret it as pity and not appreciate it.

Although he still looked wary, he agreed, and soon, you two were sparring. Or at least...you tried to spar, but Levi was so skilled that you barely had time to take your stance before you were knocked to the ground. Even then, you got the sense that he was holding back.

Throughout the training, Levi was closed-off, but at least he wasn't openly hostile toward you. That was something. Additionally, he did end up teaching you a few things, and as he demonstrated moves and fixed your technique, you internally marveled at how helpful and considerate he seemed in a setting where people weren't constantly out to get him.

Ever since that day on the training grounds, you made a point to be polite to Levi without coming across as overbearing. You said hello to him in the hallways, paired with him for partner exercises, and sat with him at mealtimes. Moreover, you snapped at anyone who was petty enough to utter a cruel word about him. And as the months and years passed, you and Levi became close friends. In fact, you fell more than a little in love with him – but you were too shy to tell him that.

By this point, the Scouts' maliciousness toward Levi had all but vanished. Sure, some of that was due to the high turnover, with most of the newer soldiers not knowing that Levi came from the slums. However, it was largely due to the fact that Levi had earned everyone's respect with his strength and skill on the battlefield. Now, there was no one they would rather have fighting alongside them. Moreover, he had been promoted to the rank of captain, and he was Commander Erwin's right-hand man.

You yourself were now a squad leader under Section Commander Hanji. The position came with a lot of responsibility – as well as a lot of danger, given that Commander Erwin had recently approved Hanji's request to start capturing titans. However, you did your best, and so far, you had managed to prevent yourself or any of your subordinates from being eaten alive.

This evening, you were heading to Hanji's office to deliver the funding request that you had just finished proofreading for her. Normally, Executive Officer Moblit would take care of this stuff, but as he was nearly chomped in half by Hanji's latest experiment earlier today, you offered to do it instead so that he could take a break.

You raised your hand to knock on Hanji's office door, but you froze when you heard Commander Erwin's voice coming from inside. He wasn't exactly yelling, but his tone was raised, and he sounded angry. Figuring that your presence wouldn't be welcome, you made to leave. But before you could, you heard the commander say Levi's name as part of his tirade, and you stopped.
