Shigaraki was surprised at first, but then he smiled. "Great! You can stay here for good then."
Dabi seemed impatient. "Are you going to get her the tissues or just let her keep crying?"
Shigaraki growled. "Yes, I'll get the tissues. Stop scolding me like you're any better."
Just as Dabi was about to comment on how strange it was that he said that, Shigaraki left the room. Dabi almost laughed. (He's running out of arguments.)
Satoko sniffled as she felt inferior for shedding lots of tears. This was really hard for her as she couldn't break a smile.
She rummaged into her pocket, and took out her wallet. "I have money he gave me, but not like I'm ever giving it back."
She had 55360.50 yen - which is approximately $500. She threw it onto the table with her eyes lowered. "You two better not deceive me either like he did. I want to believe you actually care."
Then she looked at him with tearful, yet angry eyes. But it was more like a forced anger before she broke out into a choked sob. "Consider it a warning..." Then she covered her eyes with one hand. "Because I have no one else but you both."
Dabi placed his hand on the table. He leaned part of his weight on it. "We aren't going to betray you. You're one of us."
"So you're not using me? Am I still the only one that matters?" She didn't forget what he had told her a while back. What he said about Shigaraki.
'I'm just using him.'
'No doubt he's just using us too.'
'Hah. You're the only other one here that really matters.'
"Can I really trust those words?" She stared him down, trying to see if his eyes would give him away.
His eyes didn't give anything away. There was no change in expression. Just the same cold eyes staring back at her. "It's up to you, but you already decided to join. So you must trust us at least a little bit."
Her hands suddenly and desperately grabbed his arms. It wasn't a rough grab either. In a sense, she needed a feeling of security. Her eyes became wide from the torment. "I need to know that this won't be another Hawks situation. Or are you the same as him?"
Dabi's eyes widened slightly. He wanted to push her away, but something prevented him from doing so. That internal conflict was returning. "I'm not like him. You're crazy if you think that I am."
"Am I?" Her hands shook slightly. "Am I really insane to think I won't be hurt again? Is it a bad thing that all I want to be so sure?"
It was a no brainer that there's a lot of damage done to Satoko's heart. Her head started to lean forward, like a weight was on it. She didn't put it against him though. It was hard to even touch him even. "It's stupid. I know it. I never would have thought I'd ever become this way. So pathetic."
She was being so vulnerable around him. It was pitiful, but he couldn't hurt her when she was like that. Oddly enough, he wished that he was capable of such a range of emotions.
Emotional blunting can be a symptom of trauma. It was possible that's what he was dealing with. An uncomfortable numbness can creep in and take the place of a person's normal feelings.
Usually, when he got like that, he was simply annoyed by suffering. He lacked empathy because of it. But when it came to her, something was different.
Dabi sighed. "That's what happens when you trust heroes."
"I shoulda never went with him. I shoulda ran back with you guys..." She shook her head. "How naive of me to think I considered there was good in him or any hero."
