One year earlier...
"Hey Dane!" Niel Parks yells, trying to catch up with his best friend as they walk home from school. He runs down the street, finally stopping next to dane out of breath. "What's up?" Dane asks. "I saw you looking at Nicole again today" Niel says teasingly with a smirk. Dane just shrugs and keeps walking. "Come on man you've liked her ever since 8th grade, we are sophomores now. You need to ask her out." exclaims Niel. Dane laughs, "Dude, you of all people shouldn't be giving me girl advice." Dane teases.
He takes a step into the middle of the street. As he steps out, a drunk driver swerves into him, nearly hitting Niel and speeds off. Niel screams in shock and kneels down by Dane's still body "Hey dude please don't be dead!" Niel cries, but it was too late.
