His hands were shaking so badly he kept fumbling the key card that would allow him to leave the building. 

But he managed to swipe it across the sensor, which opened the gate in front of him. He sighed, even as he left. Because as much as he wanted to leave this place and all memories of it behind, he knew such a thing would never be possible. And he also knew that the next time he would be back here, he would have done something that went against everything he had ever believed. 

It wouldn't be the first time, he was sorry to say. 

Yet it would be the first time where the full weight of his actions were understood.

Still, he held on to the hope that it would be possible to reverse the damage before it was too late-all of it.
