Gwen notices that over the few weeks after the Daniel incident that she has yet to get specific details of that David has been acting off. (No it is not Daniel posing as David this is something different)

+++++++

The bird chirp in the background and the sun from the window. I roll over to glare at the window and only slightly notice that David wasn't muttering his normal tree names in his sleep. His back was towards the rest of the cabin.

"David?" I mumble in a tired voice. I hear a sharp intake of breath from him.

"Yeah Gwen?" I asks in a more awake tone but not turning over.

"What time is it?" I ask hesitating to bring up how off he's been lately. He turns his head to face upward while still laying on his side.

"It's six thirty!" He says with a half-assed grin that only showed on his mouth and in his voice. He sits up and throws off his covers to his pajamas which, I, in my fanfic writing head decided to take note of as an overly large t-shirt that kind of served as a night gown. He stood up and stretched. Sending me a more real smile.

"I'm going to use the rest room first if you don't mind!" He says and an overly cheery voice. I nodded sleepily.  When he leaves the room I sit up sleepily and get dressed in here and think over this mornings interaction. Detective Gwen mode activated. David had come in fully dressed a few minutes after I had finished getting ready.

"Gosh David you take longer than me getting ready," I say jokingly.

"Forgive me Gwen, I just wanted to make sure that you have enough time to get ready and I don't accidentally come in at a bad time for example if you hadn't gotten up til later and I came in while you were changing," He replied in a more serious manner missing my joke.

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Lets go monitor the Hell spawns breakfast and get the day started shall we?" I groaned and he nodded. He locked the door behind us.

"Hey Gwen?" He started and stopped walking. I stopped walking as well and turned to face him.

"Yeah David?" I asked kinda hoping that he would tell me whats up.

"Um," He starts hesitantly. "Don't worry about getting coffee while you get breakfast, I'll prepare some for you!" I sigh but smile.

"Thanks David," I say in my normal slightly annoyed voice. He brightens slightly and begins to walk. "Also David,"

"Yes?"

"You know you can talk to me about anything right?" I say and he freezes but doesn't respond to what I said with more than an thumbs up. Yep, something is definitely, up. I know he doesn't usually talk about his problems unless there absolutely is a reason to for example Nurf stabbing him but he at least says a thank you or tells me he's fine. I follow after him to the mess hall to see he had already made my coffee and was blowing on his while bringing mine over. "Thanks dude,"

"No problem CBFL!" David smiles and takes a sip of his and I take a sip of my own.  A little later there was no coffee left in the cups and the kids had come into the mess hall and gotten into the breakfast line. We went and sat down on our normal table.

A few minutes later there was a slam on the table. I looked up from my phone to see Max Looking at David who was zoning out. I poked his shoulder.

"David the gremlin wants something." I said when David zoned back in and looked at me. He looked at Max with an eyebrow raise to me telling me not to call the kids shit like that. I rolled my eyes. Max flipped him off and walked away wordlessly. David sighed and looked down at the table. He then stood up with a semi-cheery smile.  He went to the front and did what looked to me like the fakest smile in the universe.
