(Scarlet)

I was fucking lucky I could swim. My feet could barley touch the sea floor and when they did the water was over my mouth. Jordie and I rapidly  jumped waves tasting the salty ocean.

We raced back to the shore. He won of course. Then we played with sand. We made sand castles and buried each other. He carved and shaped the sand around my legs until I had a mermaids tail. He even found seashells and forced me to put them on my chest for a picture.

We packed up the blanket and umbrella then headed toward the car. It was midnight. The moonlight lit up the night and the stars twinkled like they were winking at me.

Jordie reached around me to open the trunk and put the things in there. I gasped in surprise as he placed his arms around my waist and suddenly pulled me close. I wrapped my arms around his neck and could feel his minty breath on my cheek. We were so close. I looking into his eyes searching for what he wanted. Desire sparked in his blue eyes.

Jordie kissed my neck slowly inching up. I was out of breath gasping for air. Finally, the space closed. He was waiting, hovering in front of my lips. He wanted me to lean forward. But I couldn't. I couldn't let myself fall into this. I was afraid that I would kiss him and feel my step dad again. No. I pushed him away and shut the trunk. His look was so broken. I kept a straight face shivering without his body against mine. I felt empty without his arms around me.

But didn't I love Kevin? I can't feel this. I need to wait until Kevin returns. He would find me and we could finally be together. Terror flooded my chest as I realized that Kevin would eventually find me but why? Why do I feel dread?

I cleared my mind and hopped into the passenger seat. Jordie stared at me from the drivers seat. He didn't turn on the car. He shifted in his seat getting comfortable,

"Second question? It'll be simple. "

I nodded. The questions were hard to think of because we were best friends. I knew his age, favorite food, favorite color, favorite shoes. I knew him but he didn't know me. Jordie asked,

" Do you have any siblings? "

I answered,

" A older brother and a younger brother. "

He smiled,

" Were you close? Why aren't they with you now? "

I asked,

" Is that your third and fourth question? "

He shook his head,

" No. "

I replied,

" My turn. Are you mad at your parents? "

His shoulders slumped,

" No. I just wish I knew who they were and why they left me. "

Jordie turned on the car and kept his eyes on the road. I leaned over and turned on the radio. I nodded my head and tapped my foot to the music. Suddenly, Jordie starts shouting the lyrics and beating against the steering wheel.

" So do what you want!
What you want with my body!
Do what you want!
Don't stop, let's party!
Do what you want!
What you want with my body!
Do what you want!
What you want with my body!"

I busted out laughing,

"Hahaha. Oh my god I think I wet myself!"

He pauses quickly serious,

"Oh heaven sake Scarlet you better not have pissed in my car!"

Guys are so protective over their cars. I yelled over the music as he pulled over the car,

"It was a joke! Ahhhhh. "

Jordie lifted me up to check the seat. I was still chuckling. Yes chuckling. I had started laughing so hard it sounded like a chuckle coming from a donkey.

I sat back laughing and he tickled me until he was almost all the way on my seat. I screamed and cried for him to stop. Tickling was my weakness. I yelled,

"I'm going to piss for real if you don't-ahhhhh. "

He tickled me once more then realized what I said and backed away. The song had ended already.
