Memory

A warm tingling sensation spreads from my neck downward. I feel the hairs on my arms raise gently. I shake my shoulders, the feeling spreads further, pleasantly covering my entire body. There is this volume in my chest like something is holding me up. My breath is shallow, somewhat quickened. My fingers are cool, yet highly sensitive. I rub my thumbs against my fingers, focusing on the way the skin stretches. I breathe in deeply, holding the air in my lungs, swallowing before releasing the pressure gently. Another shiver rushes over me. My face is smiling, it is not under my control. My eyes have closed, filling gently with tears. Time seems slowed, the world is swirling around me. Do they feel it? Something deep and meaningful is happening. The surroundings are mundane, nothing special going on. Inside me, a memory forms. A sensation of belonging, a safe haven for future days. I breathe it in again, trying to hold the moment like the air in my lungs. I open my eyes, look around at everyone and everything. Nothing out of the ordinary, a scene like on any other relaxed day with friends. This moment is special precisely because of its simplicity. Right now, right here, nothing grandiose is needed for me to feel perfectly happy. My breathing has returned to normal, I feel myself catching up with reality. I allow the moment to dissolve. It is saved in my head, I shall never forget it.
