I only left because I never wanted to come back.
Right now, I am a month away from eighteen, and I am enjoying it. Or, since that statement should be in past-tense, was. I was finally getting back on the right tract.
Then I get a phone call. My cell phone buzzes from an unidentified number as I’m finishing up some Biology. “Hello…?”
“The Alpha has commanded your immediate return.”
“What—“
“Your plane tickets have been electronically sent to your designated email.”
“Wait; I don’t understand. Alpha Blake—“
“Alpha Blake is no longer in power.”
My breath hitched. “You mean—“
“His son, Alpha Ryan, has turned eighteen and has taken over his position. He is calling back everyone who was sent away back to make his pack as big and strong as possible. You are to return immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Then he hung up.
