Breaking Free

"Just...stay away," I mumbled, pushing at Jason's chest. He snatched my wrist, gripping it tightly. I heaved a sigh, slowly trying to back away, but he followed my movements, backing me against the wall. I could smell the alcohol on his breath.

"Why, Becca? Why do you want me to stay away?" he sneered drunkenly. "Do you not love me anymore?" Even in his intoxicated state, I could hear the mocking tone to his voice.

My fists clenched and I could feel my blood start to boil. I clenched my jaw as I tilted my head back to meet his gaze. "I never loved you." I shoved his chest again and he stumbled back enough for me to slip away and return to my car. It felt as if a weight had been lifted from my chest. I was free.
