Our moving up came, Kuya Gillo and Nate was there for me, I cried the day before our moving up when I learned that I was rank 2, Fiona Austero was rank 1, I tried so hard honestly, Nate even helped me improved my math, but still I couldn't make it to the top.
Kuya Gillo convinced me multiple times that it was okay, that being second wasn't bad at all, that rank is not important as long as I did all my best. Kuya Gillo was always highest honor in their class while me always second in our class, Nate laughed at me when Kuya Gillo told him about my misery, God! Nate has no problem being whatever rank he is, as long as he's part of the rank 10, that's already enough for him.
"What strand will you take?" Kuya Gillo asked.
Right, I didn't think about it yet "Hindi ko pa alam," Sagot ko habang inaayos 'yong mga notebooks upang ilagay sa box.
"Where do you want to study?" Kuya asked again.
"RTD," I replied.
He sighed "How about SC? EU, NWC or WC?"
I shook my head "RTD? " I winked at him.
"Senior High in SC has no tuition fee, I mean, it has, but every senior high student there has a voucher that made them free for tuition" Paliwanag niya, pero parang nangumngumbinsi na rin eh, alam niya kasi na ayaw ko na gumagastos ng malaking pera.
"Ano bang mayroon doon? RTD nga, pero pwedi rin na sa AH pa rin ako" Isinara ko ang box at inilagay ito kagabi ng mga boxes niya.
Leaving our hometown wasn't part of the plan, Kuya didn't force me to study to the schools he wanted to, however, I can't believe how Nate made me fell into his words that I found myself signing the enrollment form in Western College, WC for short after a month.
Kuya asked Nate to help me when I reach there, when he found out that my decision was final, he immediately picked me up and helped me choose the strand, cause I don't really have an idea which one should I take, pero nang nasa WC na kami napagdesisyunan kong kunin din 'yong strand na kinuha ni Kuya Gillo noong Senior High siya, I chose Accountancy, Business and Management.
After 3 weeks the passers are posted and my name was in it, my grade 11 year went smooth and my grade 12 year went roller coaster a bit, and when our graduation came, I was rank 2 highest honor, and there I truly learned that being second was not bad at all, honestly, as long as you did your best, that's already enough.
I'm now looking at my graduation photos, the first picture was me holding my diploma, the second one Kuya Gillo was with me, the third was the three of us and the last one was together with Tita Thelma, Tito Joaquin, Nate, Lola Annette and of course the hero.
Kuya Gillo laughed "Kita mo 'yong ngiti ni Nate diyan? parang siya 'yong nag graduate ah!"
"Syempre Kuya masaya ako diyan kasi hindi umiyak si Yarra sa pagiging rank 2" Sagot ng gago habang tumatawa. Hampasin kaya kita diyan!
I glared at him "Umuwi kana nga! Ang ingay mo masyado!" Sigaw ko, eh paano kanina pa 'yan nang iinis pero ngayon ko lang pinatulan.
"Tumigil na nga kayo, tingnan niyo si Lola Annette nagising na tuloy ang ingay kasi" Sabi ni Kuya nang makitang lumabas si Lola sa kwarto, kami naman ngayon ang nagkatinginan ni Nate, sinisisi niya ba kami?
Ngumiti si Lola Annette "Ayos lang apo"
I glared at him again "Kasalanan mo 'to eh" Sabi ko kay Nate.
