The Mirror

24 7 9

If you stood before the mirror,
Would you see what I see?
Could you look past the flaws,
And look deeper like me?

The mirror shows the outward appearance only,
Not the things that are beneath the surface.
A mirror can't show the things that count the most,
The things God put in you for a purpose.

Only I know the stories behind your tears,
Or the way you bottle everything inside.
The mirror can't even point out those things,
That you're trying your best to hide.

Could that mirror show you,
The heart in your chest that's solid gold?
Beating with a fierceness and love,
That can never grow old?

Would it reveal all your insecurities,
Or the way you're afraid to lose me?
Such things its face wouldn't find,
Cause I'm the only one that can see.

Could it prove to you just what you mean to me,
Or how I wish I could hug you close?
Is it really so wise that it can show,
That I'm the one you love the most?

If the mirror could truly see what's before it,
It would be so jealous.
Green with envy is what it'd be,
With the loyalty you have for us.

So don't listen to what the mirror says,
It doesn't know you like I do.
Instead close your eyes and listen to my voice,
And remember I'll always love you.
