But now here I was. A single day since then or perhaps an eternity. Trapped in a room with magic seals on every corner, and Victoria frustratedly pressing her head against the wall, her hands balled into fists, tears stinging her eyes, and the word "why" constantly escaping her lips.

We were quite literally on our own.

Allow me to backtrack.

"Morning, Gabriel."

The former Fae General glanced up at me, scowled, then looked away. He sat where he always did, his massive figure casting a shadow over the doom and gloom he called a cell.

I sniffed. It still smelled of blood and pain and death. God, did they ever send someone to scrub this place? These scents were getting a bit too overwhelming. I mean, it is a dungeon, but it's still gross.

"I don't have much time to waste with you today," I told him, my eyes sharp and a jarring grin painted on my face. "Do you by any chance feel like telling me where the remaining Fae are yet?"

"I don't know why you think I'd suddenly start running my mouth."

"Maybe because that's all you've been doing ever since you set foot in this territory."

He glared at me. I glared right back, my attention focused solely on him and never my surroundings.

God, I hated him beyond words, beyond anything.

"This is my last time visiting with decency," I told him, wrapping up this quick visit. "I've been patient with you for too long. I think it's about time I started tossing you around. I can't wait to see you sing under pressure."

My gaze narrowed, and I smiled sardonically. His eyes slightly flashed but he said nothing. "So, I'll ask one last time. Anything you'd like to tell me, Augustine?"

He spat at my feet. I narrowly managed to move my Louboutins out of the way, but the offense was made. Without another word, I flipped him off, said the actual words, and turned away.

"I'll drop by again in three days time, Gabriel. And I won't be so nice." A fire cracked at my fingertips, and I was certain he saw it as I strode out.

~ One day earlier ~

"What are you doing today, moon?" Livius questioned, coming up behind me to wrap an arm around my waist and pull me to his chest, his head dipping into my neck.

"I'm going back down to see Gabriel," I answered honestly, watching him carefully.

I had told Gabriel I'd come again five days ago, but I was easily distracted, and had completely forgotten, so... here I was. Two days after my initial plans to beat him to a pulp and see if he'd break, but still not two days too late.

I turned in Livius' arms, silently taking the tie in his hand and wrapping it around his neck for him. He smiled as he watched me. "What?" I asked incredulously.

He was still smiling. "I remember the first time you did this."

I shook my head at the memory. The bowtie I had tied for him just days after we'd met. The first time I willingly stepped into his space. It was an instinct now, but it hadn't been before. "It was a bow," I pointed out.

"All that mattered then was that you were close to me," he murmured, running a hand over my hair, those eyes fondly following the action. A sentimental morning, then.

I resisted the urge to wrap an arm around his torso. There'd be time for that later.

"Meeting today?" I tilted my head curiously.
