In response, Satoko buried her face into his chest. Tears soaked his shirt. There was a release of grief. Her hands desperately grasped onto him for any sense of comfort. "We were all supposed to play games together. How can I beat Toya in them now like you told me to?"
"Beat me at video games instead," he said. Her crying sent chills up his spine for some reason. "I'll teach you how sometime."
She nodded into him. There was a long pause until she finally spoke. "You said you wanted to be by my side. Won't I just cause you pain?"
It was no secret that Satoko has feelings for Dabi. Those feelings don't just disappear. She's feeling a bit guilty latching onto Shigaraki like this as a rebound for her grief.
"I wouldn't want to be by your side if that was the case," he replied. "Do I seem like the type to lie in order to spare feelings?"
"But..." Her eyes were getting too tired from crying any further. "Am I really not hurting you too? With everything I'm doing, how is it even possible that I'm not?"
Shigaraki's hand went still to just rest on her head. "You're not hurting me, for the millionth time. Nothing that's happening is your fault."
He was practically repeating himself at that point. It was clear that Satoko needed a lot of reassurance.
"No," She shook her head into him. "That's not what I meant. I literally almost killed myself. Are you saying that didn't upset you that I was about to do that?"
Shigaraki paused. He took in a breath to keep calm. "How about just don't try to kill yourself? That would make me really happy."
"I can't promise anything," Satoko replied. "I'll try not to."
When will she ever smile again?
It was a short lived happiness. Even though some days were short lived, she did have some moments where she did smile around the league.
It was those times she never thought she would be able to beam like that. But she did. Her grief only just started. It's really hard to fathom any positive emotion.
"I don't think I'll ever be happy again though." She admitted.
"Come on, you don't need him to be happy." Shigaraki moved away a little bit. "I'm still right here."
She didn't know what to say to that. Dabi literally died recently. How can she not need him?
It wasn't the fact she needed him. It was just that she loves him.
She didn't feel like talking about this anymore. It felt like Shigaraki didn't understand her pain.
She gripped against her torn shirt to keep it in place. "I need a new shirt..." She mumbled numbly. Usually, she'd feel awkward.
Something.
But her emotions just grew very numb.
"We'll get one for you." He finally stood up all the way. He reached his hand out for her to take. "Do I need to stay with you tonight?"
Satoko slowly took his hand. She only hesitated because she felt scared of being close. What if she lost him too?
What would she do?
She can't resist the urge to not be alone. She's a danger to herself. "...I don't care if you do."
"Good!" He grinned. "Then I'll stay here until morning."
Satoko eventually went back to bed. Shigaraki stayed beside her to wait for her to fall asleep. He kept her hand tenderly in his until her breathing slowed.
