I came up with the idea that if the metal balls are removed from Baoding Balls' body, (ha, alliteration) he becomes unable to function properly, kind of like how Test Tube gets when her liquid is poured out in Inanimate Insanity. Ze is unable to recover from this state until the balls are placed back inside zim.

These two are also OCs I've made! The one on the right is named Shrubby, and the one on the left is named Shamrock, and Shrubby occasionally calls her "Rocky", as you can see here. (I swear, I made her before Inanimate Insanity Invitational came out.) They're cousins!
(Ik it kind of looks like Shamrock is giving that object the finger, trust me, she would never do that, I was trying to draw her pointing and I messed it up ;-;)
In case you're wondering, that pot that Shrubby is in is supposed to be like a wheelchair because he doesn't have legs. I had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out how to draw it from that angle, (and this was also my first time drawing both characters), henceforth why it looks a bit wonky.
Shamrock is indeed close friends with Baoding Balls, although Shrubby not so much. He definitely doesn't hate BB, he just thinks he's kind of weird.
Shamrock is also pretty innocent, so she sometimes says things like what's shown above without realizing. I don't have a voice claim for Shrubby, but I imagine Shamrock sounding like Marzipan from Homestar Runner, since I think that kind of voice really suits her.
Anyways I will make a chapter that doesn't involve Baoding Balls at some point lol, I'm kind of fixated on zim right now because I just made zim yesterday and I just really love zim okay
