"Fuck the kid! She fucking laughed while I almost drowned! Then she walked away when I struggled to fucking get out that goddamn pool! It's thirty-motherfucking-two degrees outside, I could've died!" He yelled, curse words flying in every direction.

I cracked a laugh plopping my hands on my daughter's shoulders. "Why don't you go get cleaned up, si? Then I'll make hot chocolate."

Esme's eyes brightened and she ran up the stairs, down the hall. My smile dropped once she disappeared from my sight and I sighed tiredly as I leaned my body against the counter.

"Hey," Saude started sensing the mood change, he put his hand on my shoulder. "You've been carrying this family on your shoulders. You've managed to continue performing perfection at work while juggling raising your daughter and taking care of Adaline. You even got the school to excuse Adaline's absence. You deserve a break."

I nodded curtly. "I know...But I just want her to get better. So much had happened to her and now this? A miscarriage," I turned the stove off when I heard the tea kettle squeal. I prepped Adaline a hot mug of peppermint tea, before making some hot chocolate for Esme with the rest of the hot water. "I just...It hurts you know, We lost our baby and because of it; she might never want to have a baby."

"I'm sorry, Lorenzo," Saude apologized patting my back. "But knowing Adaline, she'll anything she can to make you happy."

I smiled with a slight scoff as I picked up the two hot mugs, making my way back up the stairs. "Yea, your right." I walked up the stairs and down the hallway to Esme's room to find it was empty. I frowned and turned around to walk towards our bedroom.

I looked through the crack of our bedroom door to see Esme and Adaline cuddled together. Adaline was stroking Esme's hair softly whilst tears fell down her face. Before I was about to go in...Her raspy, cracked voice stopped me.

"I was hoping to name them Rainy if they were a girl," She whispered, her voice dry and rough but I still loved hearing it. It had been a long month without hearing her speak.

"Daddy said that you weren't pregnant, can't you just try to make another?" Esme innocently asked staring up at her with big doe eyes.

Adaline laughed shortly. "I-It's not that easy...and I-I wasn't not pregnant, I just had a..." She paused for a moment, I watched her swallow a hard lump before continuing. "Miscarriage."

"What's a miscarriage?"

Adaline hesitated for a moment, looking off to the corner of the room. "I-Its...It's a...It's like when the mommy loses her baby while it's in her tummy. And...It happened to me..."

It hurt to hear it aloud but it was also reviving. It was like she was finally acknowledging what happened — at her own pace. I'm glad that she's speaking again because I missed her extremely. I pushed open the door more with my hip, the two mugs still steaming and heated. She froze when she saw me, fresh tears flowing freely from her eyes.

I kissed Esme's forehead before carefully passing her the hot cup, she let me squeeze between the two of them, Adaline took the hot mug from my hands with tears still flowing from her brown eyes and down her smooth cheeks. They both put their cups on the bedstands, at first we laid there silently until I gathered both my girls into my arms pulling them closer.

"I missed you baby — You and your beautiful voice," I smiled contently kissing her forehead, missing the feeling of her in my arms. I squeezed Esme closer to me. "Even when it's all rough and raspy," Both my girls busted into cute little giggles resulting in me laughing as well with them. My heart finally warms, feeling fuzzy with this cozy happiness I hadn't felt in a while.
