Midoriya woke to the sound of his alarm, All Might screaming 'Good Morning.' He tapped the snooze and slowly got up with a groan. He looked out his window. A rising sun and a few people were there to greet him. Walking to the bathroom, he stretched. It is one of those stretches that cause you to stop and vibrate from how good it is. He rolled his wrists and continued. He admired himself in the mirror. Smiling, he looked at his teeth, pure Ivory, sharp enough to cut his tongue with slight pressure and strong enough to puncture metal without so much as a crack. He grabbed his toothbrush, cleaned his mouth, then flossed. He stretched once more and turned on the shower, moving the knob to the hottest setting. He went to his bedroom, sat on the floor, and started stretching. He went on like this for a few minutes, then rose, grabbed his school uniform, and proceeded to shower. The practically boiling water felt relaxing to the boy. He scrubbed himself clean with soap and water while humming a nonsensical tune. He exited, dressed, grabbed his backpack, and headed to school. The walk there wasn't long, nor was it boring. Midoriya was constantly looking at the world around him, admiring all the colors it had to provide. Every shadow and reflection. Every falling Sakura petal and every weed between the concrete. His nose was also hard at work, smelling everything in a half-mile radius that managed to float under his two nostrils. Cinnamon bread, cologne, burgers, every small detail. After a while, he eventually made it to school.Upon entering, he was surrounded by people of all shapes and sizes. Someone had hair made of fire, and others had giant hands. Some people had wings, and some had glowing toes shown through their shoes. Everyone had a quirk. Well, almost everyone. Midoriya was a rare person, especially in today's society. He was a one-in-a-billion occurrence. He had no quirk, but that does not mean he wasn't unique. He had a secret that he kept from all the others. The quirkless were an oddity for these kids. They didn't bully Midoriya a lot; they mostly left him alone. All except for one person, that is, Katsuki Bakugo. A teen with an explosive temper and an even more explosive quirk to back it up. The two boys had been friends earlier in life, but after the former was announced quirkless, he was basically an outcast. Everyone left him alone, except for the latter, who would make fun of him purely because he was weaker, and a 'lesser being.' Midoriya didn't mind all that much. He didn't let any of his words affect him and was happy enough to go through his childhood with friends few and far between. It made keeping his secret easier. Midoriya went to his seat and sat quietly down. Others began to enter shortly after, with the teacher coming in last."Now, class, get ready." The teacher announced, "It's career assessment day!" Most of the class let out a roar of excitement. It was time to see what job best suited them, though most knew what career they wanted. The teacher pulled out a stack of papers and held them high, "Who am I kidding? We all know what you want," He threw the pile in the air, "You all want to be heroes!" The class once again was in an uproar. "Now, calm down; we can't disturb the peace of other classrooms." The class began to quiet. "Of all the schools you could attend, it looks like only two of you signed up for U.A? What the heck is up with that? I know how good you all are." He glanced around the class. "Of everyone who could apply, only Bakugo and Midoriya attempted." Bakugo suddenly stood and glared at Midoriya."You think you can outdo me, Deku!" He declared."Bakugo!" the teacher yelled."If you think a stupid quirkless child like you has a chance, especially against me, then you are stupid.""Katsuki Bakugo, sit, or you will be seated." The teacher said much more sternly. Bakugo stared dagger at the teacher but sat."Anyways," the teacher fixed his tie, "We shall begin class now, bring out your notes and turn-"Midoriya had stopped listening, tired of Bakugos yelling, and the first period wasn't even over. He drifted through the day, taking occasional notes and writing answers on tests. The final bell rang, and he began packing his stuff. A hand grabbed his right shoulder. He glanced over. Of course, it was Bakugo."You damn nerd, you think you're better than me, huh!" the aggressor yelled.Midoriya kept packing, ignoring the brazen boy."Listen here, you idiot," Bakugo grabbed Midoriya's backpack, "If you think you come close to how powerful I am, let alone get into U.A., then you are mistaken." Midoriya grabbed his backpack but couldn't get it from Bakugos grip. "You really think you can, huh? How bout this. You jump off the roof and hope for a quirk in the next life. Then you might actually stand a chance against me," Bakugo laughed."I don't care about fighting you, Kachan. I just want to learn. I'm applying for Gen Ed.""Whatever, here's your shitty backpack." Bakugo released the backpack, pushing it to Midoriya. Bakugo walked out the door with his posse, leaving the green-haired boy alone.Midoriya finished packing and set his way toward home. The last day of school was spent. He walked his usual route, though passing under a train bridge, he smelled something. It was so horrible that he gagged and covered his nose. He didn't hear what the goo monster that popped up behind him said but was encased by it nonetheless. In desperation, he clawed at the Villain, his fingernails growing longer and sharper. "s-MASH!" Even in his deafened state, Midoriya could hear All Might. The slime flew off him, and the wind blew past him. He quickly transformed his hands before All Might could come to see him."Young boy!" All Might approached, "Are you alright?"Midoriya spat out some slime and coughed. "Yeah," He took a moment and realized who was in front of him. Scatterbrained, he responded, "Hey, if you wouldn't mind, you could sign my book." He looked up, saw All Might had cleaned up the Villain and signed his notebook. He jumped up in shock. "You sure are the best, All Might!""Thank you, now I must get going." All Might began to stretch and then jumped into the air."Wait!" It was too late. Thanks to enhanced speed, Midoriya was able to grab on."Young man, you must let go of my leg, you crazed fan.""But if I let go, I will fall and die."They continued sailing through the air. Finally, they landed on an office building after some time. Blood lightly leaked out between All Might's teeth. 'Shit.' he whispered. All Might pried the boy off."I really must be going now.""Wait, I only have one question." Midoriya grabbed his wrist."I must drop this villain off; please let go.""Can someone who is quirkless become a Hero."All Might froze at the word 'quirkless.' "Damnit." He began steaming and, after a few seconds, shrunk to a lanky man. "What? How is this possible? You deflated!"*Sigh* "It happened a few years ago, I got in a bad fight, and now this is my true form. Imagine those guys who flex at pools. That's basically what I do.""But... But..." Midoriya stood baffled."I must go." He walked to the door and stopped, "and no, I don't think so." he walked off, angered.Midoriya sat there, upset. His hero said he couldn't be a hero of his own.An explosion rang out over Musutafu. Midoriya was oblivious to the sound. However, he took notice of the smell, nitroglycerin, and that slime from before, among others. He looked up and saw that down the street, a fire was erupting. Usually, he would be overjoyed. Another chance to see a quirk in action. Not today. Today was an awful day. He wandered over there anyway just to see what was happening. The slime had come back and had captured another person. How had it escaped, he thought for a few seconds. It could only have been when he jumped on. The day he thought was awful just got terrible. He focused on who had been captured and the feeling of suffocation he had felt earlier. He could understand their situation. Suddenly within his mind, some gears had fallen into place. He saw Ash-blond hair, red eyes full of hatred, and the smell of nitroglycerin. Bakugo was in there. His feet took off immediately. What was he doing? No plan, no backup, no quirk. It didn't matter. He had to save Kacchan. Be slung his backpack off and threw it at the Villain, slightly disorienting it. His hands transformed once more; he sliced at the goo in front of Bakugo, then attempted to pry him out. It was useless. Suddenly his wrist was grabbed, the Villain was gone, and so was the fire."I should be ashamed." He looked up and saw All Might. The clouds had rolled in, and it began to rain. All might let go, and before anyone could say anything, Midoriya scampered off, going so far as to transform his legs to run faster, tearing up his shoes and pants. He ran for many minutes towards God knows where. Down all the back alleys he could.Out of breath, he finally stopped running after fifteen minutes of basically sprinting. He sat down against a brick wall in the dank alley. The Sun shone directly on him from the side as it set once more. He kicked off his shoes, basically shredded. Midoriya got up and tossed them in a nearby dumpster. A shadow appeared in front of the Sun. It was All Might, holding his backpack. Midoriya sat down against the wall, holding his hands against his face."I'm... Sorry." All Might walked to Midoriyas side and put a hand on his shoulder.Midoriya uncovered his face, cheeks slightly wet."I told you that you could not be a hero, and I stood on the sidelines while you saved that young man. I should be... No, I am ashamed of myself. I did not hold to my own standards as a hero." All Might shrunk to his regular size."I'm not in trouble?" Midoriya studdered out."Not with me." All Might extended his hand, previously on the other's shoulder. "Now, stand. I want to make you an offer." Midoriya stood with his help. "My power can be passed to another, and I want that person to be you."Midoriya began to cry. He was pulled into Small Might and hugged tightly. "Shh, it's okay." A few minutes passed, and Midoriya pulled away. "If you are ready, we can begin transferring the power now, as your body seems to be in excellent physical condition.""Of course...""Toshinori Yagi.""Izuku Midoriya."
