the milkman in the storm

160 38 91

the chicken sense it & run around in circles

close your eyes

                       you can see thunder

swirling its little finger in the clouds

trees sway in the wind but i stay rooted

because i'm at the edge & if i swayed i'd fall

ribbons of wind wrap around braids of rain

& katanas of rain & arrows of rain & needles

of rain big drops nascar down erect banana leaves

the storm tries to convert my pants into its fold

but it stays

crucified to the clothesline with a clothespin

that's all it takes to leave you hanging

two umbrellas wait in the rain for the milkman

who comes raincoated & pours milk into their

waiting

the storm's nice as long as you're safe

it fills your void with a breath of awe

                                                   as long as you're safe

otherwise it takes your breath

& carves a void with it

the atmospheric cache-cleared by rain

mist gauze gazed mountains sprawl bluely

leaves so greenly sharp as if alive alone

yet incarnating together just to hold hands

                                                   with fellow leaves

the milkman leaves but the milk has arrived

the whirr of his bike is the whirr of the storm

but the milk has arrived the milkman leaves
