Unnamed - Script Preview

Scene 1

(In dim light we see a basement. A set of stairs lead out of a door stage left. Onstage, we see a bed, a door upstage center, a mirror, and a messy desk. NELO and LANE enter, frantic. They search the room. NELO holds a pistol.)

NELO
Ah, shit, dude. What are we gonna do? God...

LANE
Calm down, man. We're not gonna get anywhere if...

NELO
No, man. What the hell are we gonna do now?

LANE
First of all...

NELO
No, man, you don't understand. We can't show our faces out there again. There's no going back. This is it.

LANE
Look, we'll get out of this. We always do. You know that.

NELO
Yeah...No, Yeah...okay. What are we gonna do?

LANE
You need to relax. Take a breath.

NELO
Okay...okay. I'm cool. I'm chill, bro, I'm chill.

LANE
Take a pill. The first thing we need to do is get out to the dumpsite.

NELO
Real smooth, Lane. Just dumping them off somewhere in the middle of the woods? Not typical at all - you've seen how all of those cases end.

LANE
Do you not remember us talking about this? That's because they don't know what they're doing.

NELO
And you think we do?

LANE
No. I don't. But I think with enough time...

NELO
(Waving a pistol) Time? We don't have time, Lane. We've got a couple of hours tops before they notice he's missing. You think I want to go around, waving this thing through the air - threatening everybody I see. Oh, bang, dropped cold on the street. That's not how I roll, man. God, I don't even want this thing in my sight.

(NELO throws the pistol onto the bed.)

LANE
God, we can't go back in time 6 hours...you're gonna have to get used to it - that's the life you've dug yourself into.

NELO
No. No, no, don't you act like I'm alone in this. Don't you abandon me on this just like we left Turner cold during the heist.

LANE
It wasn't a heist, it was stealing a couple of candy bars and a Sprite from a gas station - and we left him because that's not the way we were going out. Do you know what he's doing now?

NELO
Yeah, he's...

LANE
No you don't, because he hung himself. He's dead, couldn't take the pressure after the cops started posting pictures of his face around because he was waving that same gun around inside a gas station with a couple of tourists and a cashier inside.

NELO
God, he killed himself?

LANE
Long gone. But I told myself then and there that wasn't how I was meant to go out - how either of us were meant to go. If we go out due to this, so be it. I can live with that.

NELO
This isn't some gas station robbery. It's murder, man. We straight up shot him five times through his chest. That's not okay! You don't do that to somebody. He was a living person - with a life, and a family. You don't just...
