chapter eight

"Yes! That's it!" Harry perked up as Celest suggested the whole group chime in on the song. She knew it probably wouldn't be too good given the group just met and all, but you had to start somewhere. She looked at Jeff and smiled back at him as if she were a little kid in a candy shop again.

"Just go crazy," Charlotte said as she mentioned how Harry should add ad libs to the song.

"She's right, we can always go back and re-record if you don't like some of them, or even fix it in mixing." Jeff mentioned. He went over to the mini fridge next to the counter and grabbed a beer. Celest had never been to this studio before, but she already knew it would be one of her favorite spots in the next few months.

The studio seemed to be pretty high-tech, especially for the '70s. Celest had her connections just as anybody else in her field did, and she wanted nothing but the best for the potential she saw in the group. She grabbed a polaroid camera out of her bag as she got up and sat it on the open space next to the desk.

"Aye!" The group shouted, everyone around smiling as Harry played the main guitar and Mitch strummed his. Sarah had worked out a basic drum beat for the song by now and was counting beats and adding her own twist to the song.

"What about some more guitar?" Harry asked as the track stopped, "Maybe a bit of a solo?"

"Let's run through and see how it sounds then, eh?" Jeff suggested through the microphone from behind the glass as he looked to Celest. Polaroid camera in hand, she smiled, ready to capture the moment in time.

"It's none of your..." Harry trailed his voice as he looked to Mitch, studying him as he began to focus on the chords he was playing off the top of his head. Harry added some 'hey's!' and 'oh's!' to the mix as he let loose for a while.

Celest swore she almost saw him smile.

The music stopped except for Sarah using the drum and Harry strumming a bit on his guitar to keep time. He looked up and his eyes met Celest's. His long hair was a mess, and one small curl swooped into his face. She kept eye contact for as long as he did. His hand reached for the mic in front of him to grab onto it as only Mitch and Sarah kept time now.

"She sits beside me like a silhouette, hard candy dripping on me till my feet are wet, and now she's all over me like i paid for it, like I paid for it,"

"I'M GONNA PAY FOR THIS!" Harry shouted from behind the glass while Mitch came in strong with his own strumming pattern and chords after trying to read what Harry's next move as.it sounded surprisingly well when mixed with Harry's own. Taking the polaroid camera, she snapped a picture as the expression on Harry's face was priceless.

Sarah's smile was unmatchable, and Charlotte's hair was going everywhere as she jammed out with her keys. Adam and Mitch smiled down as they focused on what chords would come next.
