Past the hidden barriers (Vampire Knight)

Prologue

I strummed the strings of my guitar gently, playing a gentle melody. Akatsuki loved when I played music for him... It's been two years since I've seen him. He moved away to Cross Academy a while back and he used to visit often, but over the years it seemed like he visited less and less. We wrote letters back and fourth and we kept in constant contact, but I still missed him. I have begged mother and father to let me go and visit him, but they said that I was to do no such thing. Father especially does not like it when I leave his side for too long. Maybe it is because I was abandoned when I was little is the reason he wants me to stay close to him. I would hate for my father to feel anxious about me abandoning him like Akatsuki did. I don't blame my brother for wanting a little freedom... but I wish he didn't make mother and father worry so much. Its very troublesome and I hate when he causes them pain. Although I know that mother and father are happy that he is at Kaname Kuran's side. Serving a pureblood is of the highest honour, but to go against a pureblood... I shivered at the thought of the consequences that come of disobeying a pureblood. "Yumi, would you come here. Your mother and I would like to have a word with you." my father called from his study. I got up from my bed and placed the guitar gently down on the bed, then skipped down the hall. "Yes father?" I said as I poked my head into his study. "Come in." I did as I was told, and sat down in the luxurious red chair in front of him. "Your mother and I have been talking and we both have agreed to enroll you at Cross Academy with your brother..." A huge grin plastered itself on my face, my whole body screamed with joy. "But you will have to write to us every month, giving us a report on how you are doing and if I hear one word from the headmaster that you are misbehaving then you will come straight home!" I shot up from my chair and gave my father a huge hug. "Oh thank-you daddy! You won't regret sending me! I promise I'll be good!" He grinned and hugged me back. "I'm sure you will be, Yumi. Now get, you better go start packing. We are leaving early afternoon tomorrow." I raced out of the room and into my own. I hauled down my suitcases and started emptying my drawers. I couldn't believe I am going to attend Cross Academy! I just hope that my presence doesn't contradict Kaname's...
