KATE

In high temperatures I still showed up the grinding of the wheels on the cement and the cheers of landing a trick--those are the reasons I still show up regardless the weather condition. Wiping away the little droplets that had formed on my forehead I take off my headphones letting them dangle around my neck they were currently connected to my SUNNY ICF-SW808 radio that I got as a gift from my father on the day of his retirement.

Gently placing my board on the cement and placing my right foot on the board like I'd seen from some guys at the skate park --see I wasn't really a perfectionist and neither was she. Taking my first stride on the board then the next and the next and a smile slowly props up on my face as I get momentum that I had been practicing for weeks to get right (balancing and getting my footing right)

Lavender, that's what she smelt like as we both collided into one another and an instant regret that I wished I had first learned was how to steer from left to right in order to avoid contact with others. Her knee was now painted with a bright colour of red and tiny rocks sitting on top to prove the fall was votile. Ignoring the pain I was feeling but couldn't see as I was wearing long jeans but the knees were ripped as a sign that's the price you pay for skateboarding.

I got up from the cement floor and dusted my pants off, "I'm really sorry I didn't mean to bump into you like that."

She tucked her shoulder brunette hair behind her ear, "It's fine. I am still learning this isn't actually my board it's my brother's." She pointed at a group of guys standing a distance from us.

I laughed," Which one of them is your brother?"

Her oval shaped brown eyes looked into mine and let her gaze linger with mine just a little longer then pulled away," Isn't that pretty obvious..."

As we both looked over at the group of guys once again one of them turned and waved over to us,"I am guessing that's him right there?"

"Yep."she looked over at me," I have to go. My name's Evelyn by the way."

"Kate. Kate Tevis."

She simply smiled before she said,"Nice to meet you Kate Tevis."

"Same here Evelyn." I whispered under my breath.

And that's how we met, during the summer and later found out during the school term that her and her family had just recently moved back. They left when she was about like twelve years old but she had always wandered when they would be coming back.

I put on my headphones once again and walked over to my bicycle to call it a day but on my way home I just couldn't stop thinking about her. I just find her so beautiful, I have never seen someone so beautiful and pretty like they were just so perfect not only in the way they looked but in the way they spoke as well. There was simply an urge in me that wanted to be friends with her no reason at all as to why I felt that way but it was just that and nothing more.
