"Look, Lyra. I really like you. As in like you, like you," Jack had said.

"Oh Jack. I like you, like you too, but we sound like 5 year olds," Lyra had joked.

"True," Jack had agreed. "Well, wanna go out for lunch or something? Captain Corndog on me."

"Sure," Lyra had nodded.

"Jack, you can stay, but I'm going. I want to feel challenged," Lyra had reasoned, dragging her suitcase to her side.

"And you can here. Just- please stay," Jack had begged.

"We'll be able to make this long distance thing work," Lyra had promised.

"Lyra, if you're leaving, I think we should end this," Jack had sighed. "End us. If you're out in Japan while I'm here, our relationship just won't be healthy."

"But, we'll make sure it will," Lyra had assured.

"I'm sorry Lyra. Have a good time at Otai," he hugged her, pecking her cheek one last time. "Goodbye."

"But, Jack we can-"

"-Don't make this harder than it already is. Please?" Jack had pled.

"Lyra! Come on! Or we're gonna be late!" Mrs. Lindsey called from her car.

"Bye Jack," Lyra choked, grabbing all of her things, stuffing it into her mom's trunk.

"Lyra! Big news!" Jack exclaimed through the phone.

"What is it, Jack?" Lyra asked hopefully. She was hoping he thought it over and wanted to give the long distance relationship a shot. What she heard wasn't what she was expecting.

"Me and Kim are together!"

It's been a year since then. Here I am, a new person in Seaford, back from Otai Academy. Jack had always been the one on my mind when I was away and I wanted, no, needed to be with him. Even if he and Kim were a thing. I need him in my life.
