Early morning turned into afternoon, the desert sun beat down mercilessly on Arthur's back.

But he was so close to Fort Mercer. And to his friends..

Waves of heat, bellowed out from the hot ground ahead. It was no man's land it seems, he hadn't passed anyone for miles now. Even while taking breaks, he never once seen a traveler which worried him further.

As he rode next to a lonesome railroad track, gunshots rang out ahead. Judging by his map, he's almost to Fort Mercer, just over the next bend he would be there.
His adrenaline kicked in as thoughts and images of John and his family being shot or..God forbid eaten..

He kicked his heels into his horse, kicking up dust and gravel.
He brutally pushed the creature up the hill and around the bend, not stopping until the fort slowly came into view.
He didn't stop there either, not when the first thing he sees is Sadie in a full blown gun fight with an entire gang of ruffians by herself.
He jumps off his horse, leaving his belongings at a safe distance just in case he's in need of an escape. He stayed behind the sorry excuses for trees, just in front of the fort to sneak behind where Sadie now fought viciously, a snarl on her pretty face.

She crouched behind an old cart just as a bullet crazed her shoulder, she hissed in pain but kept it quiet.

Arthur waved his silver pistol as her green eyes raised, a smirk now on her lips. "Bout time one of you sorry bastards show up." She said loud enough for only him to hear. He chuckled, trying his best not to show his own fears for her.

Bullets rained down once again, tearing the cart to shreds. In a moment, there'll be no coverage for the woman and she'll be laid bare for them to shoot to pieces.

"Duck your head and run like hell towards me Sadie, don't run straight though!" Arthur called.

Her head snapped up, giving him a look that says 'are you out of your mind?'

"There's more coverage here, we'll sneak back to my horse and figure out another plan." As the word 'plan' slipped through his lips, he detested how much he sounded like Dutch. He spat on the ground as if it tasted vile.

She finally nodded, taking a deep breath. She covered her blonde head, running towards the tree line where Arthur stood now.

"Ella esta huyendo! ¡Qué cobarde y perra! (Shes running away! What a coward and a bitch!)" they laughed. Arthur listened to the foreign taunts with fists so tight, his knuckles turned white.

"Dirty son of-" Arthur waved his hand to stop the curse about to come from Sadie. No time for cursing and damning.

"Have you seen the back of the fort?" She scoffed at his question.

"Well yeah. Bout climbed a ladder back there when one of the filthy rats pushed me off! I could've broke my neck but luckily I grabbed on, but I slammed into the ladder which hurt like hell. Made my teeth jingle from the force." She cupped her jaw, wiggling it back and forth as she eyed the fort through the tree line.

Arthur shook his head angrily. "What the hell do we do now?"

"Okay.." she drawled out as she thought, "I'll distract them while YOU climb up the ladder and hide inside the fort. Once you're in, do you think you can sneak to the entrance and open the gate?" Sadie eyed, waiting for his reply.

"We're going to get ourselves killed aren't we?" He closed his eyes as he sighed. "Yeah I can try."

Sadie started to take off towards them again but Arthur grabbed her wrist. "Let's get some rest, we'll camp somewhere close. I'll take first watch."
