Whispers of an Enemy

It's just another reflection that peaks through the mirror

Of a girl with this mask hiding tears

She draws a perfect smile on her hopeless face

To believe that she might belong in this mess of a place

She whispers with an enemy inside her head

Trying to wash away scars that bled

She tries to ignore the humming of control

But every sound of those words creates a new soul

She traces portraits of a girl she once knew

Trying to draw a map of how much she's gone through

There's no way out, compasses point to an unknown

She tries to run but is reminded she can't go on alone

It gets harder to begin living in her own skin

When she knows the war inside is already too far in

"Can't do it anymore," fills restlessly through her mind

What's left of her is no longer an urge to find

It's not going away; it's there where it has always been

The enemy who whispers, "I told you I would win."
