George just turned 19 a week before the tragic death of his father. He was a kind boy, but many saw him as wild and foolish. He was just a teen after all, a whole life of decisions ahead of him, not a task or a care in the world. He would have had plenty of time to prepare to take over the throne later. His father was only 47 when he died, one of his men betrayed him and stabbed him to death.
Georges mother would have had to take over the throne until george was ready, but 5 years after george was born, she kept drifting, and by the time someone noticed it was too late, she wasn't emotionally there, and she's living her life in a mental institution. Georges father never remarried.
So there george was. Fidgeting with the hem of his royal blue sleeves, at his fathers funeral. Unprepared for what was going to be next for him. George never once cried, he wasn't allowed, one of the servants sent to prepare him said it would make him seem weaker than he already was. George was far from weak, he practically raised himself.
Back when he was a kid he would constantly get called a freak. They told him people would only love him because he's the prince. They told him that once someone saw his discolored eyes, his brown hair, how short he was. They would be repulsed. They told george he would never find a queen. George pushed all the comments away and stayed brave.
"Valiant. George your quite valiant." his mother would say to him.
"What does that mean?" George would ask his mother every time she used the word, due to her state she wouldn't answer sometimes, or would make up random answers.
"Oh george. Valiant means your brave, but we don't use the word brave in this family, it sounds so, boring. Utterly Boring" Georges mother was always very fancy, she still is. She's obsessed with how people view her and her family, she doesn't like boring words, she replaces them with more, regal, ones.
"Was does Utterly mean mom?" Georges mother laughed.
"Little george! Haven't you seen a cows utters before?!"
George was pulled out of his thoughts as the priest called george up to speak. He hadn't prepared his speech, they barely gave him any time to get over his grief. George felt he was trapped, that all of a sudden he has to take over and now all the responsibilities are put on him. What to wear, how to dress, what to say. What if he slipped up, a tiny mistake and the balance of the kingdom would be throne off. No king has ever messed up before and george was unprepared to be the first. What if he was stabbed to death to, was he about to die-
"*Cough* Pri- King George." Georges head shot up to the priest. The priest was a tall man, he had dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes. He wasn't just a priest, he was his fathers best friend, and a general in his father, well his guard now. He shot George a sympathetic smile. George tried to return it but anybody standing within a mile could tell it was forced. "Right. Thank you Philza." George spoke, his voice was small and soft, he was sad, and scared. He climbed up to the podium and looked out at the crowd.
George looked out at the crowd.
"You know people say henry was stone hearted, uncaring, and I'm not sure that he was..." ( Sorry sorry on with the real speech people, also if you get where that was from ily )
George looked out at the kingdom. Tears forming, but he just pushed them away. He turned and looked at the coffin. And then back to the crowd of people, most were crying.
"My dad was the best father i could have ever asked for. He was kind, he loved me and my mom so much, and he devoted every day of his life to not only us... but this kingdom. I don't think we ever had a king as great as he was." George let out a shaky breath, he locked eyes with a guard in the crowd, he was tall, blonde hair, green eyes, covered in green. He gave george a reassuring nod, George looked back out to the audience.
"My dad loved everyone. He had way to much trust." George let out a small giggle. "Everyone says that kings are supposed to be ruthless and Cold, but my dad was the opposite, he never wanted to settle anything with conflict. He wanted to make sure everyone was happy. He didn't care what that meant for him, as long as everyone else was ok. He spent most of his time working on making sure everyone in the kingdom had a home, a steady income. I hope to help him achieve his goal. I want to make sure everyone feels like this is where they want to be. I want to make sure everyone knows that they play a role in this amazing kingdom. It wouldn't be the same without all of you, and my dad wants that to. If he were here right now he would be giving out hugs to everyone whos crying, and I'm sure he is, Spiritually. I want everyone to know that they aren't alone. My dad always said, a kingdom is as happy as its most sad citizen, I didn't really understand what he meant when i was as little, but now i do. Were all going through this loss together. Thank you for being here" George stepped down from the podium, looking back over to the blonde guard, before looking back to the Philza.
"Thank you king george, your words are appreciated. Thank you all for being here, I know its a hard time, and we need more than anything to be together. I will be stepping down as head guard, its at times like these where you want to be helping in the community, not just in the palace. Id like to introduce our new head guard, and King Georges new personal guard, Sir Dream." Philza looked over to Dream, and he waved out to the crowd. "Thank you everyone, but King george will be saying his last goodbyes to his father in private. You are welcome to visit his tomb any time starting tomorrow." Philza wrapped up the service and we were off to the burial site. I sat in the back of the carriage with dream next to me. We didn't speak, it wasn't the time, he could tell. I was crying by the time we got there, me and Philza said our goodbyes, and headed back to the castle.
This was gonna be a long week.
