|7| If This Isn't Pure Misery, Then What Is?

"Eri, Hitoshi, we need to talk for a second." Eri immediately skipped over, but Shinsou stayed where he was.

"Yes Dad?" Eri asked. Aizawa blinked. He still wasn't used to her calling him that. Shinsou raised an eyebrow in amusement.

"Yeah Dad, what?" Aizawa glared at his adoptive son and sighed.

"You both know Midoriya."

"Mr. Deku!" Eri cheered happily, eyes shining. She looked up to the boy like he was invincible. Shinsou just grunted. He only knew Midoriya from their fight at the Sports Festival and a class joint training. Both times they were on opposing sides.

"Yeah, him. Well, Eri, remember how you came to live with us and Shinsou was already here?" He asked gently, trying to phrase it in a way a seven year old would understand. She nodded. "And he didn't really like sharing space with another sibling at first."

Eri nodded happily. "Yep! But now Nii-chan loves me!"

"He does," Aizawa agreed. Shinsou nodded.

"What does this have to do with Midoriya and why are we talking about Midoriya." Aizawa sighed.

"Midoriya got injured recently, and lost his mother a little before. Since he can't do foster care like you did," he nodded at Shinsou. They'd adopted Shinsou through the foster system, and Eri was sent to live with them because of her uncontrollable quirk, "we're taking care of him for a while."

Eri's eyes shined, awe sparkling on her tiny face. "Mr. Deku is gonna be my new Nii-chan?" Aizawa ruffled her light blue hair.

"I don't know, probably not. We're just supposed to foster him for now." Of course, they were just supposed to foster Eri as well, until they could work around her quirk or her grandfather woke from his coma.

They ended up adopting her after a year.

He turned to Shinsou. "Hitoshi, what's up?" The purple haired teenager shrugged.

"I dunno. But like... Midoriya of all people? How'd that even happen?" Aizawa sighed.

"We don't know exactly. He's really... withdrawn. And Eri, you know how you were really happy to be here, after you stopped being scared?"

Eri nodded, looking a little confused.

"Well, Midoriya might act a little scared too. And he might not like being here at first." Eri tilted her head.

"Why not? You and Papa are great dads."

Aizawa chewed on the inside of his cheek. "Well, Midoriya would rather be with his mom. But his mom is gone now, so he can't. He might be bitter. Sometimes kids think foster parents are trying to replace their real parents."

Eri looked down. "So he'll be mad at you?"

"Maybe."

Eri thought for a moment. "Then I'll just be extra super nice, cause Mr. Deku always says to be nice to people! And I'm gonna be a hero like him and Papa and you and Toshi and Deku!" Aizawa chuckled a little and ruffled her hair.

"That's a lot of heroes."

"Mhm!" She smiled brightly.
