Izuku sighed, standing up. "Might as well let him in, before the stop sign comes back for round two." Kerosena snorted.
Something in Izuku's gut told him to look up, and the last time he ignored his gut it hadn't ended well, so he did so. Spiderweb cracks made their way across the roof, the wall sagging under the weight.
"Kerosena!" Izuku screamed. Kerosena looked up and her eyes widened, immediately jumping back. A large chunk of plastered cement fell to the ground, crumbling into smaller pieces.
Ryuko, only a few meters away, began running for the two. Izuku thrust out his hand to stop him.
"Ryuko, stop! We're gonna come out!" That is, if they could figure out how to get out safely. The wall was half toppled, and the roof was unstable. Kerosena was glaring at the house as if it had gravely betrayed her.
"Ten years," she muttered, "ten years, and you let a hurricane take you down. Unfaithful." Izuku kept himself from snorting. This was a serious situation. Probably.
"Okay," he said slowly. "I'm going to kick down the wall." Kerosena looked at him like he was crazy.
"That's the stupidest thing I've heard all day." She gave him a wry look. "Let's do it."
Izuku nodded and flipped the switch to his quirk, red veins running down his arms until sparks of green replaced them. He sent a small air pressured attack at the fallen chunks of roof. The flew away, clearing a path.
Kerosena gave him a grin. "Come on, I've got the body heat. Try not to freeze."
He nodded. "Sure, Hotline." Kerosena barked a laugh and carefully made her way to the broken wall, searching for an opening big enough.
It was crumbling, and the door had broken down. It was nothing more than a big heap of rubble blocking the way out, while half the house was still (mostly) intact.
Rain pounded down with a vengeance, wind whipping like a hurricane. Izuku shivered, but Kerosena didn't seem bothered. God, what was she, Elsa? Or was it just her quirk?
Izuku followed close behind, surveying the damage. He'd have to be really careful about this. Definitely didn't want to kill Kerosena. That'd definitely break a bit of trust.
"Okay, step back. This is dangerous." Kerosena snorted.
"Ya think? What, do I need a hard hat?"
"Well, what we really need is an Iron Man suit, but a hard hat would help."
Kerosena shook her head in amusement but stepped back, arms crossed. She was shivering a bit. So her quirk didn't keep her entirely warm. Although it might just be the tank top.
It was probably the tank top.
Izuku walked back and forth, distantly hearing Ryuko yelling at him. Finally, he found a spot that should be stable long enough for them to get out.
Izuku turned to Kerosena, flashing her a grin. She only rolled her eyes fondly.
Izuku's eyes, by sheer chance, looked up at the roof. Call it instinct, call it luck, call it ADHD. But he looked up, and saw the spiderweb cracks making their way across the roof like a glass bridge slowly cracking under the weight.
Izuku's eyes widened to the size of saucers and his quirk flared up, lightning sparking up and wind spinning around him like a tornado from the pressure.
Kerosena looked up, too slow. Her mouth opened in a scream as the roof sagged, failing to hold up.
Without thinking, body moving on instinct, Izuku lunged forward, pushing her out of the way.
The roof came down, smack dab on him. Distantly, he could hear Ryuko screaming, Kerosena shaking him.
His vision was blurry and he could barely think. He ignored Kerosena's yells for him to stay awake, fading into unconscious.
Happy birthday, Izuku.
