Central City, 2176.

A young scientist sat in his lab, staring into the constant flow of data that danced across the screen in front of him.

He let out a sigh as several red flashes, followed by high-pitched beeping sounds, emitted from his monitor.

"Long night, Professor?" a man said as he entered the lab.

The scientist turned to acknowledge his assistant with a worn-out expression.

"Longer than it needs to be," he said.

"How close are you to cracking this Speed...something?"

"Speed Force," he corrected his assistant bluntly, "and not close enough it seems..."

He turned and gazed at his monitor again in frustration.

"The very notion of this discovery contradicts the very fabric of existence. If we could somehow find a way to harness this power, we could revolutionise the internal workings of society. Humanity would advance farther than ever before!"

The assistant let a small grin onto his face, watching his mentor become so passionate about his work was always something to smile about.

"I suppose you won't be needing anything else from me tonight then?"

"Not at the present," the scientist said with a smile.

"Then I shall take my leave."

The assistant turned towards the door again before looking back at his friend with a sly grin.

"See you on Monday, Professor Zoom!"

The scientist let out a hopeless sigh as his assistant left for the night.

He never liked that nickname, it just didn't feel like it suited him all that well...

Looking back at his work, he decided it was probably getting a bit late for him as well.

He began to tidy his desk, a desk that was littered with equipment and old dusty tomes from the 21st century.

A little something he'd been using for his research into this mysterious Speed Force.

Just as he was about to lift one of them to look at, something caught his attention...

...a reflection in one of the glass flasks on his desk.

"Touching..." a voice said.

The scientist spun around, knocking several books and one of the flasks to the ground.

There was a man in his lab with him, a complete stranger.

He had light brown hair and a sharp complexion, wearing a black leather jacket and pants to match.

He was standing against the wall with his arms folded and his expression was calm, almost in a sinister way...

"Who are you?!" the scientist demanded.

The stranger grinned as he stepped away from the wall, unfolding his arms.

"No one of consequence."

The scientist was rigid with both confusion and fear.

"I'm calling security!"

His hand reached for the button next to his desk.

The stranger moved in a blur and caught the scientist's hand before it could reach it.

"That won't be necessary," he said.

The scientist's eyes bulged wide as the man placed his hand on his chest and suddenly pinned him against the wall behind him.
