Chapter 17

Y/n and alexis had been flying for a few hours, and it was beginning to get dark, they decided to camp out for the night,

While setting up the small camp they were chatting about alexis' life before he found her,

Y/n: so your telling me, a boy was picking on you, so one of your brothers, grabbed his underwear, and pulled it up really hard?

Alexis: yeah, he called it a wedgie, the boy never picked on me again,

Y/n: hmm... meliodas did something similar to me once, when we were children,   he picked up a few leeches and placed them in the sleeves of one of my shirts,

Alexis: that seems a bit extreme don't you think?

Y/n: it didn't really bother us, we're demons, putting leeches in our shirts was considered a pretty boring prank,

Alexis: did you get him back?

Y/n: Of course I did! Your dad isn't some lame pushover who let's anyone get away with anything!

Alexis just looked at him with a face that said 'are you sure about that?' Y/n noticed the look and scratched the back of his head sheepishly

Y/n: Well... anyone except you and merlin, heh

Alexis: dad you let us get away with anything, your supposed to be the strict one telling me what I can and can't do, thats your job not mothers, her job is to be really sweet and an absolute pushover who let's me get away with anything because I'm her little baby girl,

Y/n: ha! Sorry kiddo but that'll never happen, your mothers the boss of our family not me, anyway dinner is ready, help yourself,

Alexis: ooh what have we got? It smells good!

Y/n: thank you, its just a stew, its got some fresh venison, lentils, potatoes, carrots, leeks, and to add a bit of flavour, I created a stock out of onion, leek, carrots, some beef fat and bones, and to top it off a small bundle of herbs tied with a piece of string,

Alexis: what herbs did you use?

Y/n: I used, thyme, rosemary, a few Bay leaves, and garlic,

Alexis: cool! Some day you have to teach me how to cook,

Y/n: yeah, maybe we could come up with a few recipes together, that'd be nice,

The two finished their meals in a comfortable silence, before sitting by the fire and watching the sunset,

Y/n: alright im heading off to sleep, you should get some too, we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, and we're still a few days away from Edinburgh Castle, we should be back in camelot in about 3 days I reckon,

Alexis: okay dad, ill see you tomorrow, goodnight, have pleasant dreams, I'm gonna stay up for a little longer  if that's alright?

Y/n: of course just don't stay up too late, goodnight,

Early the next morning, y/n woke to the sound of a crackling fire, and a heavenly smell,

Exiting the tent he found alexis slowly cooking some pheasant over the open flame, there were vegetables stuffed inside of the bird slowly roasting alongside the plump bird,

Y/n: impressive! It seems you have a natural talent for cooking

Alexis: dad! You weren't supposed to wake up yet, I wanted it to be done before you woke up, so I could surprise you,

Y/n: *chuckling* Well, it is done, your now beginning to burn it,

Alexis frantically pulled the bird off of the fire and started trying to cut off the burnt bits of skin,

Alexis: oh my god I'm so sorry! I've ruined it!

He walked over and gently took her hands,

Y/n: calm down alexis, you haven't ruined anything, look

He gently removed the knife from her hand, and proceeded to carefully remove the skin of the pheasant,

Y/n: there see, if you burn the skin it doesn't matter, just cut the skin off alright, now you go get the plates and ill serve breakfast,

After breakfast the two set off on the road again, heading towards a small village near Edinburgh, to investigate recent bandit attacks,

Village chief: you see my lord, our crops just wither and die no matter what we tey and do, and its spreading, just yesterday a young boy became deathly ill, his body has broken down completely and he just looks like skin and bone, its terrifying, is there anything you can do to stop this plague?

Y/n was deep in thought, thinking of where he had seen this before,

Alexis held her hand over the dying boy, a faint light started to emit from her hands, and spread over the boys body, removing any traces of the mysterious plague, and curing his ailment,

Y/n watched alexis work with interest,

Y/n: *thoughts* a mysterious plague that slowly kills everything infected by literally draining its life-force, and alexis can counteract it by bathing them in the soothing light that her shard of chaos allows her to use,  wait a minute thats it! This is the work of the shard of darkness!

Y/n: alexis, tell me, can you detect an energy signature from the plague infecting these crops, it will be very very faint but it should be there,

Alexis held her hand out over the crops, after a while she scrunched her face up in disgust,

Alexis: I can feel the energy, but it feels wrong, disgusting and abnormal, is that normal?

Y/n: for you yes, this plague is the work of the shard of darkness, it feels wrong and disgusting to you because you wield the shard of light, and darkness is the opposing force of light, so its only natural that you would react like that,

Alexis: so your telling me that a person did this, deliberately?

Y/n: not necessarily, it could've been accidental, or it may well have not been a person, animals can also be the hosts of the shards of chaos, although only dragons could use the power of the shards, sadly dragons went extinct a long time ago, I was 225 when the last dragon died, it was a close friend of mine, and entrusted me with two eggs, to this day they haven't hatched, I think they're waiting for the right time,

Alexis: thats really sad, why did the dragons go extinct, I heard they were very noble creatures,

Y/n: they were the noblest of all creatures, sadly though, human beings hunted them for sport, lords and knights would hunt dragons and Mount their heads on walls to show off their skill and bravery,

Alexis: that's horrible!

Y/n: thats the human race for you, mothers prized creations, the most vile and evil of all the races, but also the most pure and kind, it sickens me to think that there are people out there who would kill a noble creature causing nobody harm, simply to mount its head on a wall to show off, pointless killing, and turning against your own kind, I dont understand why humans would want to hurt their own kind,

Alexis: I dont know father, but what I do know is that I want to help them, I want to make the world a better place for humans, and the other races,

Y/n: a noble goal, I have no doubt one day you will achieve it, but for now let us continue the hunt for the person who caused this foul plague,

A/n: thats all for this chapter folks, as I reread this chapter I found it seemed quite dialogue heavy, sorry about that and I will tey and tone it down for next time so you can get some more action,
