Chapter XI: Homeward Bound

In the silence that followed, several of the dragons were stunned at the visage of the evil leader Emeran the Dark's mutilated corpse, just lying there in pieces with a bloody, ice-encrusted wound seared into the torso section from Peter's power. But the disbelief was short-lived, giving way to a massive roar as they all cheered; several of the dragons hoisting the laughing youngster on their shoulders, and others weeping and hugging him like family. Two dragons offered to take Emeran's body and dispose of it in the volcano's caldera, before joining the throng on their homeward journey. As many were fatigued by the war, others offered to use the earth talismans to let those who wished to, ride waves of earth in order to conserve energy. But soon, the welcome sight of Avalon spurred them onward. Many were too exhausted to do anything but sleep; it was quite a sight of several hundred snoring dragons curled up under trees and in the meadows, but they deserved it. As for Drake, he, by Lord Ragnar's consent, was allowed to return home to visit his family.
