Author's Note:
Hey guys! Welcome to my book, Gravity! I've been writing for a long time but this is the first time I'm letting other people read my work. I'm excited but nervous about it. Let me know what you guys think and enjoy!

I listened as my brother slurped the last bit of juice that was left in his cup. "I don't think there's nothing left in there, JJ. You're sucking air at this point."
"Gotta get every drop for good luck," he said, before finishing off his cheese danish.
It's been our tradition for us whenever we start a new school to go to Starbucks. He gets apple juice with a cheese danish and I get a chai tea latte with a cheese danish. I don't know if it works but we have to keep the small things to keep us going.
I pulled up to his school and he let out a big sigh. "You ready?" I asked.
He shrugged, picking up his bag. "Third times the charm, right? Or is it three times, you're out?"
I rolled my eyes. "Out where? You're 8. It's the charm." He didn't respond, just watched all the other kids go inside. I know he's tired of changing schools so much, but he doesn't say anything. If all goes to plan, it'll be his last change for a while. 3 schools, 3 cities, 2 years. That can never be good for a child. "Hey, you drank every drop, right? Then there's no way this day can go left."
"You're right."
"Right. And I know you're nervous, but you're a dope kid. I'm not just saying that because you're my brother. Just let them see how great you are." He nodded but didn't say anything. "Alright, let's go."
We got out of the car and as were walking to the school, he grabbed my hand. I squeezed it, hoping to transfer some confidence I had into him. The kids stared at him as we walked by but JJ was looking straight ahead. Yeah, this wasn't his first rodeo.
We reached the office and the receptionist went to get the principal. A moment later a woman with a big smile came out.
"Hi, good morning! I'm Principal Dane. You must be Jerome Scott, Jr." She reached her hand out to him.
"JJ," he corrected, shaking her hand.
"JJ, got it." She turned to me. " And you are..."
"Brianna Scott, JJ's sister," I said, shaking her hand.
"Oh, wonderful, welcome. Are your parents coming to join us?" My smile dropped and I glared at her.
"Our parents died when I was 2," JJ said calmly.
"Is that not in your file?" I snapped.
He squeezed my hand. "It's alright. Can we get to my class now?"
Principal Dane nodded, giving us apologetic looks. "Of course, let's go. I'm so sorry-"
"It's fine. Let's just go." I said.
As we walked upstairs, JJ looked at me. "Today is going to be a GOOD day... right?" Now it was my turn to nod. " When you get to your new school, you better open up, too." I rolled my eyes, sometimes he forgets he's the younger brother.
We came to a halt. "Here we are," Principal Dane said. " Your class is 315 and your teacher's name is Mr. Marshall. Everyone is expecting you."
I felt the nerves generating off his shoulder, so I got to his eye level. "You got this, bud." I stuck my hand out and we did our handshake. By the end, he seemed a little better.
"Okay, I'm ready." He turned to walk in but looked back. "Don't forget to drink every drop for good luck."
I laughed. "You got it, boss." He walked inside. I watched as the teacher introduced him to the class. He waved at them before waving at me through the window. I waved back before turning and walking away.
