"sirius orian black, get your arse outta bed!" james cried whipping the curtains of his bed open to let the sunlight in hoping it would wake sirius up

"really potter, morning practice? do i have to? cant i have a pass now that you're captain!" sirius whined rolling over and burring his face in his pillow and slamming his fists into the mattress like a child

"get up," james insisted sternly

he scrambled around the dorm getting dressed and polishing his broom one more time all while brushing his teeth. it was the first quidditch practice of the year and james was ecstatic

"sirius would you just get outta bed," remus screamed in frustration as he rolled to lay on his back

"yea i wanna go back to sleep," peter chimed in with a whiny groan

"and we cannot do that if james is yelling at you all morning," remus added. "so get up"

"would you at least do it for moony?" james pleaded with a grin kneeling in front of sirius's face

"are you pulling the boyfriend card? really? is that necessary?" sirius groaned rolling his eyes at james

"yea, i am. and yes it is," james replied pulling the sheets off of sirius abruptly. "now get dressed pads"

"moony make sure he gets dressed and leaves please" james added grabbing his gear. "youre the only one who can control him."

with that james headed out of the dorm down into the common room and out into the corridors. he quickly made his way down to the pitch. he was in quidditch mode now

it was his second to last year which meant his time to win the cup was running out. two more seasons he thought only two more seasons

where did the time go? he remembers so vividly the first time he rode a broom, his first game, his first goal, the first time he was hit by a bludger, the first time he beat slytherin, and especially his first year; when he spent every waking moment watching the team and preparing himself to try out his second year

and now he was captain, he was finally the big man. he could hardly believe so much time had passed and that he was about to step onto the pitch as a captain

he was in auto pilot on his way down to the pitch. his mind was racing with nerves and thoughts about where to start. he was not even aware of his surroundings. all he knew was somehow he was headed the right direction

"morning potter," regulus said approaching him and pulling him back into reality

"ah morning reg," james cheered stopping in his path

"you okay? you look out of it?" regulus asked softly

"im brilliant, just thinking, a lot. must be noticeable." james explained

"good," regulus replied slightly smiling. "thinking about quidditch?"

"that and just how far away this used to feel but now its here," james admitted

"this?"

"being quidditch captain, being so close to graduating from hogwarts, i just can hardly believe its so close," james went on

regulus smiled, "well dont waste what time you have left eh? make the most of it, you know?"

"what about you? does it feel weird to you?" james asked

"sometimes, but for different reasons. ones i dont wanna bum you out with right now. okay?" reg replied quietly

"okay," james nodded

regulus gave him a soft smile that said 'thank you' but also hinted that he would tell james later and to just wait patiently

but james already knew what regulus was going to say. he knew reg was surprised he had lived this long, surprised he was still at hogwarts, and surprised sirius was as happy and as healthy as he is.

that was the nice thing about james in regs mind; he didnt have to say all the hard sentences in which he would choke on his words and stutter through every syllable, he never had to talk about the bad stuff because james seemed to always read between the lines and say them for him

james smirked playfully, "so..did you come to spy on us?"

"no need," regulus shrugged with a smile. "we can beat you fair and square. no cheating required."

james smirked, "is that a challenge?"

"a promise, potter"

"you dont stand a chance," james chuckled

"we'll see about that," regulus narrowed his eyes playfully

"potter!" a voice called. "merlin, potter!"

james rolled his eyes as he turned around to be greet by the elder black brother

"yea?" james asked as sirius got closer

"quit flirting with my brother," sirius smirked. "weve got practice remember."

james mocked sirius 'weve got practice remember' while rolling his eyes at him

"hi sirius," regulus chimed softly

"hey reggie," sirius answered. "doin' alright?"

"better than alright," regulus said nodding towards james blushing. "you?"

"ah you know me," sirius started. "just wish i wasnt up so early."

"i remember, never were a morning person. they hated it," regulus laughed

"and thats why i loved it," sirius beamed

james smiled to himself, this was the longest conversation regulus and sirius had shared in months possibly years even. and it was all thanks to a little help from him

"we should get to the pitch," james stated, suddenly aware of the time

sirius and regulus nodded

"ill see you later?" james to regulus

"yea," regulus beamed

james nodded and jogged to sirius's side throwing an arm around him

"proud of yourself, are we?" sirius smirked turning to look at him

"only if youre as happy about how that went as i am," james stated meeting his glance

"i owe it to you prongs," sirius admitted. "youre doing something right with him. thank you."

"i am, arent i?" james smiled like a bloody idiot about it all

james had done it again. he had managed to repair something or someone whos was broken and bruises and in dire need of a little love, without intending to

but it would have to wait. right now he had to make sure his team was going to be ready to beat slytherin and ravenclaw and hufflepuff; well mostly slytherin
