As I walk down the empty street, the harsh winds nip at my nose, cheeks, and ears. I pulled up my scarf higher, desperate for some kind of warmth, but it just fell right back down.
Ever since Earth went to shit, it's been freezing. Usually, it doesn't affect me that bad, but I guess winter decided to be a bitch today.
This big-money corporation thought it would be a good idea to make a huge space station but get this- only take certain people. Also, it covered the Earth from a lot of sunlight, hence why I'm freezing my ass off.
I think they only took people 18 and over, and also 0-9-year-olds. Us kids had to learn how to survive.
Too bad I was one of the unlucky few who doesn't have any friends or siblings.
whoopee.
And where might I be going in this cold you might ask?
I was going to this abandoned house. For science reasons, of course.
I look up at the old building once I finally make it there.
It looked like your typical, small house. One bathroom, one master bedroom, one small guest room, and a dining room inside the kitchen.
Rumor has it it's haunted, though. I'm here to find out if that's true. Also to see if they left behind some food, I haven't eaten in a minute.
As I step into the old house, broken glass crunched beneath my old shoes.
I shine my flashlight around, looking for any signs of a.. ghost would be the right word in this situation, wouldn't it?
I look through the living room, my heart beating loudly in my ears. It's not sped up, just slightly on edge.
"Hello?" I call out, although I know there won't be a response.
Or so I thought.
There's a clatter coming from the master bedroom. I nearly jump out of my skin, I dropped my flashlight.
I clasp a shaky hand onto the fabric of my shirt above my heart. What the fuck.
I pick up my flashlight and sweep the room with it once more. No sign of disturbance. I decided to check out the sound- against my better judgment.
As I walk in, all sounds of life outside stop.
Not like there was much anyway, most of it froze.
I step into the room and nearly cough from the amount of dust that poofs into the air.
I wave my hand through the grimy air, trying to dissapate the insant amount of dirt in the room. I tie my scarf tight behind my head, making it somewhat like a mask.
I look around, trying to blink out the insane amounts of dirt from my eyes.
A buzz.
From the other side of the room.
Which horror movie did I just walk into?
Meh, things have been getting a bit boring anyway.
I stride over, looking for what made the noise.
*Bzzzzzzz*
"I'm coming, I'm coming..." I mumble, striding over.
"What the.." I mutter, picking up a cracked phone.
It had a clear phone case, with a crack running from a little to the left of the top to the very bottom right corner of the bottom.
It also had a small chain on the bottom, and on the end of it looked to be a sized-down picture of a group of friends.
I didn't get a good look at all of them as the phone lit up again, causing me to fumble to not let it fall out of shock.
It looked to just be.. buzzing. For no reason. Now, I haven't had a working phone for something like 2 years? But even I knew that wasn't normal.
I press the power button on the side. The screen lit up, revealing the wallpaper to be a character of a character I didn't recognize. They had a lot of bright colors on their hoodie, though.
I swipe up to try and unlock it. No password? Weird.
I look over the home screen. It was.. someone. Their silhouette was holding a flower with their arms in the air beside them, seemingly spinning in a flower field.
Pretty.
I look over. There were... Absolutely no apps.
I sigh, having a phone again was too good to be true anyways.
I slide the phone into my backpack, then turn to leave.
Oh.
OH-
I let out a startled screech, actually falling this time.
There was a girl just- standing there.
Staring at me.
With eyes that had no pupils.
Oh, and gaping claw marks across her chest.
Still dripping with blue goop with the same consistency of blood.
I gape at her for a few moments, mouth opening and closing. My brain stopped.
"Hi." I finally settle on.
She leans against the doorframe, arms crossed. She's- Is she fucking inspecting me?
"Yo." She finally says.
"Are- What's- uh.." I stutter. This girl was a ghost. She was dead. I was seeing spirits.
"Mind turning that phone on for me?" She asks, walking over.
I'm tempted to scoot back a little to avoid her but it would be pointless anyway since the room was so small, so I just cautiously take the phone out and turn it on.
She looks it up and down, a sense of longing in her dead stare.
"Open it." She simply says.
I open it to the home screen.
"Now then.." she closes her eyes as if trying to remember something.
"Uh... Swipe up." She says, slight uncertainty in her tone, so I do as I'm told again.
"Yes! I knew I still had it!" She whispered to herself as various app icons popped up.
"Now then, try and find the one with the little uh.. dude on it." She says, eyes shimmering with a very faint shimmer. Happiness?
I glance over them all, then find one that has an icon of what looks to be a stickman waving in front of a dark purple background.
I click on it and it opens up, revealing messages. I look at the timestamps and these are from... 4 weeks ago. How recently did this girl die?
"There. Say uh.." She thinks for a few moments.
"You know what? say to join vouce chat 1." She says, resting her elbow on her knee and her head in her hand.
I do as instructed, and there are instantly 6 people in the call.
Ghost- the name I gave the mysterious girl- nudges me to join, although she goes through my arm.
And this is the story of how I managed to do something incredible with the dumbest- but also most amazing- group of people.
