"I love you." Tears started rolling down her cheeks. "No more secrets!"

"Good." I wiped her tears. Annette always cries whether she is happy or sad and it used to annoy me a lot when I was a kid but I got used to them.

"Now tell me what else is bothering you."

"Well, Adrian and Dad are keeping something from me. You know I am always the one that they tell everything but I overheard Dad telling Adrian that I shouldn't find out about the hit."

"Elijah, that is probably nothing." She smiled. "Stop overthinking. You know Adrian and Dad love you a lot. They would never hide anything from you so just forget about what you heard. I am sure it wasn't important."

"I am sure it was important because they both panicked when they saw me."

"Eli." She cupped my face. "I am sure it's not our business. If whatever you heard is important your father or cousin will tell us so for now let's not involve ourselves."

"Okay." I replied. "Now go shower and get ready for the doctor's appointment. I don't want us to be late."

"Yes sir." I don't trust Annette at all. I am sure she knows something but why isn't she telling me anything when she promised she wouldn't hide anything from me. I know Annette loves me but she always hides things from me. I am sure when I find out what they all hiding from me she will say 'it wasn't her place to tell me.'

Annette and I arrived at the hospital and the rest of the family members were waiting for us outside the doctor's room.

"Seriously Eli." Annette mumbled.

"Relax, they are only here because they love you and the baby." I replied as we went inside the room.

"Thank god they staying outside." Annette sighed.

"Do you want me to call them in?" I asked and she smacked me playfully.

"Eli, you know I am shy. I can't get the ultrasound done in front of your father and the others." I wish my Annette had a sense of humor. She is always so serious, she doesn't even know what a joke means. I have a lot to teach her and the baby.

Annette did the ultrasound and the doctor told us that Annette and the baby are both healthy. I was a little disappointed when the doctor told us we expecting one girl. I was hoping for two girls, at least but people don't always get what they want so I'm happy with having one daughter. It won't be easy to name a girl but I'll find a way to give her a cool name.

"Annette you haven't said a word since we came back from the hospital. Are you fine?"

"Elijah, I am alright. I just don't have anything to say." She smiled.

"Are you angry because I asked the doctor for the gender?" She shook her head. "Then what is bothering you?"

"Nothing!" She snapped. "Good night." She left the dinner table.

"Annette, are you angry because we expecting a girl?" I asked and she turned to me.

"What?"

"I didn't mean to say that but seriously, you were not happy to find out about the gender. Annette, you literally faked a smile, that didn't last for two seconds. You couldn't even say you expecting a daughter after mom asked about the gender of the baby.  Annette, having a daughter is amazing. You of all people should know that because your whole family is full of girls."

"You seriously going to blame me for the gender of the baby just because my mom had two daughters?" I shouldn't have started this argument. Now I don't even know how to end it.

"That's not what I meant." I replied. "I really wanted my first child to be a daughter. I never expected a son."

"Is that because of my genes." Annette will keep putting words in my mouth no matter what I say.

"No." I replied. "I always wanted a daughter so she could look after her brother. Like my sister Emily. You know Emily is older than my brother Oliver, you have seen their relationship. Oliver always listens to her and he loves to protect her and Emily is exactly the same. If I had a son first, he would probably be like me, always making headlines."

"So you don't care if I give birth to a girl?"

"Nope." I smiled.

"You sure? Because Eli, you would want a son to take over the companies one day. You would want someone to carry the family name and then everyone will blame me for not giving you a son. This society always blames the woman for everything."

"Annette, you acting as if a son will increase your life span." I cupped her face. "Trust me, I promise my family doesn't care about the gender of the baby but if you really still want to have a son, there is plenty of time to make one. For now, let's just focus on our baby girl. You wouldn't want her thinking we never wanted her. "

"Of course I want my baby. I love this baby more than anything in this world but it's just complicated. But anyway, if you are happy I am happy." She hugged me. "Sorry for being difficult, I love you."

"I love you two."
