처음 (The beginning)

🎶Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep🎶

"감자 머리! Wake up!" Yoo-Jin's mom shouted for her son as he failed to wake up on time, despite his obnoxiously loud alarm. (감자 머리 = potato head)

"엄마, give me 2 more minutes, please?" The boy replied drowsily, not realising he was getting late for his first day of senior year. (엄마 = mom)

"Give me one more excuse and I'll toss water on your face!"

With his mom's threat he shot up, and raced to get ready. He was a model student after all, he couldn't afford to be late. He brushed his teeth, took a quick shower and got into his uniform.

"Don't forget to pray before you leave, my 고구마~" (고구마 = Sweet potato)

He kissed his mom, hugged his dad and bowed his head, and left for school (on time surprisingly?) like the 완벽한 한국 소년 he was. (완벽한 한국 소년 = Perfect Korean boy)

"Wow I'm looking forward to my first day as a senior, finally I'll be the eldest Sunbae in the entire school!" (Sunbae = Korean senior)

Yoo-Jin, or Eugene had always been a model student, that's just how he was raised. In his house perfection was the benchmark, and anything below that was looked down upon, to such an extent that most of the poor boy's childhood was spent in an excess of extracurriculars and academics. He was popular amongst his peers, but only because people always wanted things from him. They used him, but his naturally kind nature prevented him from being unforgiving and he would always make the same mistakes. Being hurt by the people he valued the most. Jaewon was different though, and as the model student began to approach his school grounds, not too far behind a trio of chaotic friends were marching in the same direction.

"OMFG SAM AND AE-RI I STARTED THIS MANHWA YESTERDAY AND..." 

Sam rolled her eyes. Jaewon loved talking about his latest Manhwa and Manga obsessions extensively, and it would occasionally get annoying. But that's what she loved about him. He was never afraid to talk about what he loved. That's what made him an honest friend.

"Slow your roll bud, I know you're excited to simp for some new male characters, but I think it's time we get you an actual boyfriend." Sam always wanted to be there for Jaewon. She knew what he had been through and made it her priority to keep him happy.

"Oppa, I agree with Sam, we should find you someone who makes you as happy as your 2D obsessions!" Ae-Ri, though a bit of a pushover at times, was a trustable and good friend. She always listened. She was one of those people who preferred to listen rather than talk, and she made everyone's day just a little bit sweeter. Her name did mean profit after all. (Oppa = elder Korean male/ elder brother)

Jaewon, happy with his friends' eagerness, cringed at his favourite characters being called obsessions and retaliated, "They're not obsessions you know. If you actually gave one of them a read, you would totally understand my reasoning!" Jaewon loved his friends. You know how people say "I've never seen two pretty best friends before" well, here they were three amazing, charming and objectively nice looking friends, who balanced each other out more than any chemical reaction.

And thus the day began, as Hoobaes and Sunbaes all gathered in the main hall for a day one debriefing, a familiar face, brought a plethora of childhood memories rushing back to Yoo-Jin, and he muttered to himself,

"I-its h-him? I-its really h-him?"

Hi Everyone! Its Teal, the writer of "The little things" here! I just wanted to say thank you so much for reading the first chapter of "The little things" I know it was quite short but I wanted to introduce some of the main characters to you! I hope you enjoyed it and look forward to many more in the future~ 

For anyone confused, I will describe some of the characters below!

-Ahn Jaewon (Protagonist, Gay but closeted, Flamboyant, Friendly, 5'9, Good friend, Korean, Age:17)

-Park Yoo-Jin/Euegene (Protagonist, *Straight but questioning*, Model Student, Tall 6'0, Friendly, A little Gullible,Kind and Forgiving, Korean, Age:16)

-Samantha Rose Rodrigues (Side Character, Openly Lesbian and proud, Short 5'3, Latin-American living in Korea, Supportive, A bit of a temper, Good friend, Age:17)

-Hwang Ae-Ri (Side Character, Straight 5'7, Korean, Pushover, Happy, Very Positive, A great artist, a good listener, A bad secret keeper, Age:16)
