I was sitting in math class. I was trying to pay attention to what the teacher was saying but it was useless. I couldn't stop staring at the new kid across the room. His expression, so stern and focused. He was writing in his notebook.

"Zak. Zak!"

The teacher had called my name.

"Oh- what?" I looked forward.

He pointed to the whiteboard. "Can you tell me the answer to this equation?"

"O-Oh um- no sorry I don't know," I shook my head.

"Maybe you would if you were paying attention," He said. "Can someone else answer for Zak?"

I shrunk down, embarrassed. My face turned a light shade of red.

"I can, sir."

"Yes Darryl?"

I perked up when I heard his name. The new kid, Darryl, had his hand raised.

"It's fourteen," He confidently said.

"Good, that is correct," The teacher nodded.

~~~
A while later the bell rang. I left the classroom and started walking down the halls.
"Hey Zak!" My friend George ran up beside me.  (This is Spifey btw)
"Hi Geo," I smiled at him.
"What was going on in math today? You really zoned out," He asked.
"Oh, it's nothing-"
"Oh, I think it's something," He said.
I blushed, "It's nothing, really."
"Uh huh, well I'll see you at lunch," He waved and walked off.
I stopped walking when I heard some kids laughing and standing around someone. Getting closer I realized they were laughing at Darryl.
"Hey!" I shouted at them. "What do you think you guys are doing?"
"Someone spilled his water and he slipped in it," One of them explained. "It was really funny, too bad you missed it."
"That's not funny at all, all of you get lost!"
They looked at me annoyed but reluctantly left.
I kneeled down next the Darryl and spoke, "Hey, you alright?" I placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Y-Yeah I'll be fine. You should go or you'll be late to lunch."
"Whatever, I'm not leaving you here alone. Let me help you up," I put my arm under his and lifted him off the ground.
"Thanks, you didn't have to really," He said, looking up at me.
"I'm not done yet, your clothes are wet," I said.
"It'll dry," He said.
"No need, I have an extra pair of clothes in my locker."
"Really? Thank you."
"Of course," I smiled.
We walked to my locker. I opened it and pulled out my extra set of clothes. I gave them to him.
"Thank you, really," He repeated.
I laughed, "It's fine."
He started walking away.
