The Lovers, In Darkness

Her eyes flashed a shade of demonic and she sneered, "Have I made myself clear?"

Ciel couldn't answer. He'd never heard her speak to anyone like that. It seemed so unlike her to speak in such a way. The angel had already turned on her heel, walking back towards Sebastian, her victorious stride cut short as a wave of exhaustion washed over her, causing her to trip over her own feet, stumbling forward into Sebastian. As she fell into his arms, face quickly buried in the crook of his arm, she broke into a harsh fit of coughs, blood running down the side of her lip. It felt painful, and she could barely register Sebastian's hand rubbing soothingly over her back. "You've overexerted yourself, darling..."

Yes. He was right, he was always right when it came to matters about her health. Nodding slowly, she dug her nails into his arm, trying to get a decent grip on him, hoisting herself up and into his shoulder. He was holding her tightly, taking great care not to let her go. "I'm fine," she whispered, "Promise..."

Ciel caught a glimpse of her face then. Deathly pale, with dark bags under her bloodshot eyes. She suddenly appeared weak, frail as she clung to Sebastian, forcing herself to be strong. He'd never admit it to anyone, but she reminded him far too much of his late mother.

She'd been ill a few short months before the fire that took the lives of everyone in the manor. Ciel remembered how small he'd been, peeking into his mother's room as the servants tended her needs. He'd only caught a glimpse of her before he'd been rushed away from the scene. Deathly pale, with dark red blood on her lips.

Ciel was jolted back to the present as he heard Sebastian murmuring something in another language, "Stai bene?"

Weakly, Aurora responded, a shaky hand coming up to hold his face, finger brushing a stray strand of hair from his eyes.

"Lo sarò, amore... Non preoccuparti... Sto bene..."

She staggered, leaning heavily against him with a small moan of pain. Sebastian glanced down at her, adjusting her in his arms so he could meet her eyes. "Ne sei abbastanza sicuro? Sembra che tu stia lottando, mia cara."

Ciel snapped, "Stop speaking Spanish!" The couple shared a small smirk and Aurora bit back laughter, looking up at Sebastian with a pained smile, "Oh mio Dio, sembra che il giovane signore non riesca a capire l'italiano dallo spagnolo."

Ciel's face turned bright red as embarrassment flooded through him. "Don't change the subject!" He glared at them both, "Either way you've been having an affair, and one of you-"

Aurora coughed again before snapping. "If you think... Either of us will let you... tear us apart... You're wrong." She rasped, "People have been telling me what to do my entire life. I don't plan to carry on that record." She glared at the boy, "So don't expect me to follow every last one of your orders." Sebastian found himself biting back a victorious smirk as his young master's eye twitched in annoyance. After several years of having a demon butler at his beck and call, an angel who refused to follow every last order was a not so pleasant surprise.

"I expect you to follow most orders at the least." Ciel retorted. Aurora scoffed, "I'll follow orders I deem necessary. But when I deem them wreckless- I want no part in it." Sebastian pulled her to his chest suddenly as she coughed again, nails tearing at the threads of his tailcoat. "My lord, I must insist that I be allowed to escort Aurora to-"

Ciel groaned, "Enough already!" He sighed, reaching behind his head to pull his eye patch free, letting it fall from his eye, leaving both uncovered. He gave a few short blinks of his eyes before glaring at the demon and angel duo. The overlapping seals in his right eye flashed, starting to glow dimly. Aurora immediately reached to her left hand, pressing the palm of her right atop her oath seal in an attempt to relieve herself of the burning itch scratching at the back of her left hand.
