Soulmate AU
On your 20th birthday, a tattoo appears somewhere on your body. Your soulmate has the same one in the same spot.

*Kian has a star on his forearm. Y/N hopes to get the same one, but receives a little rabbit on the side of her foot.

KIAN HAD thrown me a surprise party for my 20th birthday. This was a big one—I'd get my soulmate tattoo at exactly 11:59 tonight, the last minute of my birthday.

I'd been anxious the whole day, awaiting a little star to pop up on my arm. Jc got me drunk and I only started to sober up a bit after ice cream cake.

Everyone had left by midnight, except for Chelsea and I who would be sleeping over with our boyfriends. Kian and I sat on his bed, facing each other with our legs folded, my phone in between us showing the time.

"Three...two...one," I counted down.

I looked right to my arm, but saw nothing. I was so confused; Why was it taking so long? Kian said his showed up right on the dot.

"Maybe it's taking a little longer," I offered.

"Y/N," Kian trailed off.

I was still staring at my hand. "Maybe it's somewhere else on my body," I exclaimed. I took off my shirt and searched my torso, up and down my arms. I turned so my back was to Kian. "Is it on my back?"

I could feel Kian's warm hand on my shoulder. "Y/N," he said softly. I turned around and he had my shirt in his hand. "You don't have it...It would've been on your arm."

I could hear the sadness in his tone, see the tears threatening to fall from his intoxicating brown eyes. I was crying myself.

We weren't soulmates.

"Kian, I-"

"Please don't say anything," he replied, lowering his head.

"This...this doesn't change anything. I-I still love you," I sobbed.

"Y/N...we can't be together if we're not soulmates. There's someone out there for you, someone out there for me. I...I love you, too. That's why I'm making this decision for the both of us."

"Please, Kian-"

"There's no point in us wasting time staying together when we're not forever. We can't get married, have kids, Y/N. We're gonna break up—we might as well do it now."

I couldn't speak. I knew he was right, but I just couldn't let go that easily. My head was down as Kian stood up. I couldn't look at him.

"I...I think you should go," he said quietly.

I nodded, wiping my tears as I got off the bed. "Yeah...yeah. I guess...I guess this is goodbye."

I looked up at my now ex-boyfriend of two years. Water welled in his eyes, only one tear managing to escape. He didn't say anything, so I took that as my cue and opened the door.

In a swift motion, Kian grabbed my wrist, twirling me into his chest and squeezing me tighter than ever.

"I love you, Y/N," he mumbled into my hair.

"I love you, too."

When I got back to my apartment I sobbed for hours, crying myself to sleep. Little did I know, Kian did the same.
